BITKOM, W3C & IEEE SA keynote panel discussion on industrial internet standards at

Industry of Things World 2015

Berlin, Germany, May 26, 2015 Creating a standards framework for IoT keynote panel discussion at
Industry of Things World 2015 #IoTClan
Standards (or the lack thereof) in the IoT space are currently a conversation everyone talks about. It
is clear that all stakeholders need to work together to define a framework that will allow IoT
applications and technologies to fulfil their full potential.
To discuss the future and roadmap of standards specifically in the Industrial IoT space will be
representatives of three of the most influential groups currently working on this topic:
Wolfgang Dorst, Head of Industrie 4.0, BITKOM
Wolfgang Dorst is Head of Industrie 4.0 in the high-tech association BITKOM. He
represents the association in the PLATTFORM INDUSTRIE 4.0, which was founded in
2013 by BITKOM, VDMA and ZVEI. Previously, he was a member of the Authors team
of the Working Group Industrie 4.0 at Research Alliance of the Federal Government.
Mary-Lynne Nielsen, Director of Corporate Programs, IEEE SA
Mary Lynne Nielsen has worked in the standards field for over 25 years, supporting the
creation of industry consensus at the IEEE Standards Association (IEEE-SA). Currently,
she is the Global Operations and Outreach Program Director for the IEEE-SA,
developing and leading effective coordination and collaboration for successful IEEE-SA
global outreach efforts with national, regional, and global organizations.
Dave Raggett, W3C staff lead for the Web of Things, W3C
Dave Raggett is a member of the W3Cs European staff and is based in the UK. He
currently focuses on the Web of Things and Web Payments. He has been involved in
several European projects including PrimeLife, Serenoa, Webinos, MediaScape and
Compose. Dr. Raggett has been closely involved with web standards since 1992,
including early work on HTML and HTTP, and work on MathML, VoiceXML, multimodal
interaction, model-based UI design, and device APIs.
Join this exciting conversation and be part of how the IoT standards will be defined for the future of
the connected world ecosystems. The panellists will focus their conversation on the following points:
How can standards work is such and wide ranging and diverse area as IoT? and yet how can
the market possibly reach its full potential without standards?
What does the concept of standards really mean in the context of IoT?
How can the varied standards relevant to the area effectively be integrated for IoT solutions?
Can a verticalized approach to standards work?
How can Open Source approaches to both hardware and software accelerate market
adoption?
We are looking forward to welcoming Mary-Lynne, Wolfgang and Dave for this interesting session at
