At Biocon, we believe our investment in better healthcare must go beyond developing new
medicine to making medical assistance accessible to less advantaged, rural communities of
India. Executing our corporate-social responsibility through the Biocon Foundation, we have
adopted an integrated outreach strategy that focuses on social change and empowerment of
rural communities through public health, sanitation and education programs.
Public Healthcare
Public Health Arogya Raksha Yojana Health Micro-insurance Scheme (ARYMIS)

Rural Upliftment
1. Rural Clinic Services-
Rural clinic service is a novel and unique rural health service scheme in vogue in our Bank
since 1983. The twin objectives of the scheme are to provide medical facilities to backward
villages not having access to basic medical care and to provide self-employment
opportunities amongst unemployed doctors to set-up their clinics in the remote backward
villages.
The scheme provides an opportunity to qualified doctors in Allopathy / Homeopathy/
Ayurveda or any such other discipline of medicine recognized by the State or Central
Government/Universities recognised by All India Medical Council/Board of respective
disciplines.
The identified, qualified doctors are assisted under the scheme through a rural branch as
regular clinic or Part time Clinic basis for a period of one year. The identified willing doctors as
per the scheme norms are eligible to get an incentive and cost of medicines for dispensing it
free of cost to poor patients.
So far, the Bank has assisted 487 doctors to set up rural clinics in remote rural areas.
2. Rural Service Volunteers
The Bank pioneered an innovative scheme called Rural Service Volunteers in the year 1982.
Under the scheme, the Bank provides an opportunity to willing and interested workmen staff
to work for rural development on full time basis, for a minimum period of 2 years. The
scheme aims at bringing total transformation in socio-economic fronts of 2-3 selected
backward villages, through coordinated approach. So far, 146 workmen staffs have worked as
RSVs.
3. Jalayoga Scheme
The scheme introduced in the year 1996 to commemorate Bank's 90th year of establishment
to provide safe drinking water to SC/ST/Backward communities of rural areas coming under
lead districts of the Bank. Acute shortage of drinking water faced by the impacted community
has driven the Bank to respond to their needs. Governments alone cannot meet the basic
needs of the people and this has prompted the Bank to take up community development
projects like JALAYOGA.
The Bank through its operating mechanism identifies the areas for implementation of the
scheme. The necessary land is allotted/granted by the Village Panchayat/ Village
Development Committee. The Bank funds the project and implements through its branches.
A sum of Rs. 3.00 lakhs per project is released and any extra cost towards the project is to be
borne by the local bodies. After completion, the system is handed over to the local bodies for
future maintenance and servicing.
4. Harikalyana Yojana
To mitigate the socio-economic problems of SC/STs, the above scheme was launched during
1988. The scheme aims at development of SC/ST colonies through a locally appointed
animator. The scheme provides a grant assistance of Rs. 5,000/- to the selected youth to
acquire productive assets for gainful employment and income generation. An additional grant
of Rs. 10,000/- is provided for promotion of developmental activities like literacy classes,
health care, cleanliness campaign, tree planting, sanitation, drainage and other extension
programmes. The role of animator is catalytic in nature to bring about socio-economic
transformation in the community.
The scheme has been implemented in about 390 SC/ST colonies.
5. Rural Resource Development Centre
RRDCs are physical nuclei structures promoted by the Bank during 1988 for the benefit of
cluster of villages. The objectives of the scheme are to harness and facilitate the available
local resources for the development of villages and its management by the villagers. Under
the scheme, the Bank provides a grant assistant of Rs. 50,000/- for construction of RRDC
building with contributions from villagers in the form of land and labour.
Presently, 19 RRDCs have been established in various parts of the country.

CSR activities:
The Essar Group is both a people-driven and people-centric organization. It understands the
value that people deliver in the making of a great company. The Group’s spirited involvement
in community service is inspired by these beliefs.
The Group’s ethos on social responsibility focuses on not just taking care of its own
employees but enabling and enriching the communities around the areas where its plants are
located. In addition, the Group has been at the forefront in rendering aid and assistance by
way of donations as well as relief supplies in times of national calamities, such as the
Tsunami, earthquakes and floods. Essar has made significant contributions to the Prime
Minister’s and Chief Ministers’ relief funds in the past several years to alleviate suffering and
help rehabilitation.

During the trauma of the 2001 earthquake and the drought of 2000 in Gujarat, Essar
responded with providing doctors, critical life saving drugs and drinking water, apart from
long-term rehabilitation programmes. Essar also supplied material and assistance to Gujarat
Electricity Board for recommissioning a number of distribution stations in Bhuj after the
devastating earthquake. At the same time, the Group helped in the rehabilitation of
Surendranagar by building schools and drilling community bore-wells.

Employee involvement
The underlying objectives of Essar’s activities is to motivate employees to participate in and
contribute to the activities initiated by the Community Relations Centre, to create self-help
groups for village women, to further overall development of children and women, and to
spread awareness about AIDS and de-addiction.
Essar has outlined seven focus areas where employee involvement can make a difference to
the lives of the community:
Education
Self-employment
Training
Infrastructure development
Medical
Health & hygiene
Recreation and welfare
In every quarter, specific tasks have been lined up and are being conducted with a high
success rate, with the involvement of community leaders.

Special focus on Hazira, India

The Group has transformed Hazira and its neighbouring areas by planting thousands of trees

These SHGs have managed to raise loan of upwards of Rs. 20 lakh and are engaged in a
variety of income generation activities that has contributed to family income.

Community Development

Urban Programmes -
GMRVF works with poor urban communities in several places. All programmes in these places
begin with a thorough study and analysis of the problems of the communities. Subsequently,
the Foundation works closely with the community to overcome these hurdles. For instance, in
the case of Medaras or basket weavers of Rajam, it was found that multiple issues impeded
development of the community. Alcoholism was draining the family income and
inaccessibility to reasonable loans to purchase raw materials was leading them into debt
traps. The Foundation’s solutions like counseling for de-addiction, provision of interest-free
loans and formation of Self Help Groups have brought about a change for the better in the
community.

Rural Programmes -
The Foundation works in over 50 villages aiming to promote Participatory Rural Development
and to strengthen village communities and their institutions. The efforts include creating
health awareness, facilitating training for members of local institutions, initiating and working
with youth clubs, developing village libraries, working with SHGs, afforestation etc.

Rehabilitation Programmes:
Illegal encroachments in the Delhi Airport land were cleared in end 2006. The community has
been given land by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi at Safda Ghevra JJ Colony. The
Foundation has been working with the community since early 2007 to help them in the
process of resettlement.

The interventions include: (1) short term measures like provision of water to meet daily
needs, facilitation of transport for children to attend examinations in their schools in the
airport vicinity, mosquito-fogging, organisation of health camps, programmes for group
building and goal setting, etc. (2) long term measures like skill training of youth for
employment; improving the quality of education through the establishment of pre-schools,
tuition centres, provision of scholarships, etc; formation of women Self Help Groups and
exploring home-based work options; opening a clinic, etc; and (3) facilitation of service
provision including working with the authorities to expedite creation of quality infrastructure
including water, sewage, street lighting, etc.
Environment
Global cooling" A unique afforestation effort by the mills on rocky terrain led to the planting of
2 million trees. This helped improve the surrounding temperature / rainfall and a better
quality of air to breathe. This "man made jungle" has helped get many laurels for the
company over the years.

"Waste management"- A sophisticated effluent treatment plant processes nearly 3 million lts.
of waste water which is than used for watering the a forestation programme.
A 1.2 million lts. sullage treatment plant helps in supplying treated water for the farming in
the neighbourhood

"Renewable energy" A culture of using water energy was started way back in 1887 - when the
first of its kind hydro power plant was set up on the banks of the Gokak Falls. Today Gokak
generates 6.3 MW of power by using this environment friendly source of energy to meet most
of its energy requirements.

Gokak Mills places a high premium on employee welfare. The company hospital, residential
complex, educational institutions are one of the best in the region. More than half the
company's employees were born and educated at these facilities. With many children and
grandchildren of employees serving in the company the tradition of a happy society continues
in this serene township of Gokak Mills.

Around the world there are many cities and towns Kennametal calls home. These wonderful
places are also home to our thousands of employees. At Kennametal, we take great pride in
supporting these communities, and helping to make them vibrant, enjoyable places to live
and work. The Kennametal Foundation is one of the ways we do this, as is our exceptional
relationship with the United Way.

Kennametal Foundation

The Kennametal Foundation makes monetary grants to qualified organizations in or near

communities in which Kennametal facilities are located. These grants are focused on
providing post-secondary educational opportunities, healthcare, and related issues. Because
of these grants, the Foundation is an important part our commitment to supporting our
employees, their neighbors, and their neighborhoods.

Grants for post-secondary education are focused on studies in the areas of technical
engineering, machine skill training and environmental sciences. Some recipients attend class
at the Kennametal Center for Operational Excellence at Saint Vincent College, Latrobe, Pa., or
enter the National Tooling and Machining Association’s National Apprentice Competition.
Grants for health and related issues sometimes involve national organizations, such as the
United Way or the American Cancer Society. Local causes such as the University of
Pittsburgh's Hillman Cancer Center have also benefited.

United Way
Kennametal is proud of our long tradition of supporting communities and partnering with non-
profit organizations to address the important needs of our local communities. The United Way
one of our most important partners in helping us reach this goal.

A national organization with ties to every city and town, the United Way makes it possible for
Kennametal and its employees to give back all year long. The donations we make stay right in
each local community and are disbursed to the charities and non-profit organizations that are
helping our own friends and neighbors.

Kennametal has enjoyed a long and mutually beneficial relationship with the United Way. We
help them help those who need it most. And they in turn help us know we’re making a
positive impact on the places we live.

CSR activities:
Our contribution to the community around the factory takes the form of welfare programmes.
One such programme is to ensure safe surroundings for people to live and work in. Eco-
friendly production processes, not using carcinogenic Azo class dyes and running a modern
effluent treatment plant, are some of the ways through which we keep the environment
pollution free.

See Green. Think Green. Act Green.
We have pioneered the use of Eco-friendly Refrigerants in India. We have now designed
systems with Hydrocarbons as refrigerants instead of Ozone depleting CFCs. Hydrocarbons
like Butane, Propane, Propylene etc. are environmentally safe in the sense that they do not
deplete Ozone nor do they contribute to Global Warming. We have also developed systems
for using Coal Bed Methane from the huge coal deposits in our country and this translates
into an incredible amount of Carbon Credits to the end users. Till recently this methane was
flared into the atmosphere. This year, we saved 1.15 Million kWh through various Energy
Conservation Methods/ projects, which is recurring savings in the years to come. That is
helping in reducing 1150 tons of CO equivalent emission reduction. 2 Today, we are a major
supplier in the sub-megawatt class with our gearboxes contributing to over 300 MW of Power
Generation using renewable non-polluting Wind Power. Higher capacity MW class Gearboxes
are under development to further support the cause of green energy. We have developed
electric Screw Compressors with Variable Speed Drive to reduce the power consumption up to
35%. The product range available is from 30 KW to 160 KW capacity models. When 75% of
life cycle cost is the Power Cost for Air Compressors,
energy savings play a major role in terms of cost reduction at customer's end and Energy
Conservation for the Nation.

Besides global dimming and contamination of air and water, global warming is a
reality today. A reality that threatens the very fabric of our existence. Our future,
and that of our children is at stake. Being an industrial group that values the highest
standards of eco-responsible co-existence, we at Kirloskar are committed towards
enabling an enriching future. And yet, this future is rife with challenges. It is in these
challenges that your company sees immense opportunity. Opportunity that will create
new business paradigms. In a future that is green.

Green. In vision. Thought. And deed.

Community Care - UK-MCF-TGB Gram Vikas Project
As a responsible corporate citizen, responsive to the needs of the community around is our
objective. The government of UK had, in 1975, granted an aid of Rs.40 lakhs under the
Colombo Plan for overall development of villages in developing countries.

Several villages were surveyed and finally Sanganakal village of Bellary district and Herur
village of Raichur district were selected for overall up-liftment of the poor farmers of these
villages with marginal land holdings. For this, a trust was formed under the name UK-MCF-
TGB-GRAMA VIKAS PROJECT. The primary objectives of the trust are to sustain and enhance
agricultural productivity and help farmers diversify into allied activities like dairy, poultry, silk
rearing, etc.

Certain agencies committed to rural development, The University of Agricultural Sciences,

Department of agriculture and Tungabhadra Grameena Bank, have actively co-operated with
MCF in meeting the social objectives of the Trust.

The activities of the Trust over the years has included rural education in health care, setting
up reading rooms, empowering women, providing drinking water, conservation of energy,
donating critical equipment to rural hospitals, furniture to rural schools, construction of
community centers and rural hostels and training villagers in subsidiary occupations.

Some of the developmental activities undertaken by the Trust are:

· Adopting Sangankal village in Bellary District, Herur village in Raichur District, Kulinje
village of Kundapur Taluk and Lingappayyana Kadu village in Dakshina Kannada District for a
period of three years for overall development.

· The projects undertaken include construction of Community bath and toilets, providing
better infrastructure to the schools, improving their libraries, construction of community halls
and hostels and providing water distribution systems.

· Formation of a Mangala Farm Club in the villages and organizing sports activities, free
health check-up, eye camps, etc. in association with the Lions Club.

· Participation in the construction of a 'Mangala Bhavan' Auditorium in the Rotary School,

Moodabidri, Dakshina Kannada District, by giving financial assistance.

· Providing Sewing Machines to Mahila Mandals, plant protection equipment to Yuvaka

Mandals, Swasthic Chulhas under the non-conventional Energy Resource Scheme, community
TV sets, etc. in different villages.

· Extending financial assistance for surgeries and intra-ocular lens implants to the
disabled in association with reputed eye hospitals.

Environment Management
The need for a safe and healthy environment is stressed. An effluent treatment and disposal
system was provided in the design stage of the plant itself. Thereafter, advanced pollution
control measures have been regularly incorporated.

A centralized domestic effluent treatment plant has been installed. The treated effluent
strictly complies with the parameters that are stipulated and is discharged into a green belt of
over 80 acres of forest area created within the plant.

During the monsoon, the treated effluent water is pumped to the Arabian Sea at Thaneerbavi
beach. A 4.5 kms pipe line is buried underground and another 650 metres is submerged so
that the treated effluent water is disposed beyond the beach deep into the sea. The aesthetic

What brings us MindTree Minds together in building an organization that has a unique culture
is our value system. Every MindTree Mind is driven by CLASS, the acronym for our core values
of Caring, Learning, Achieving, Sharing, and Social Responsibility. Everything we are,
everything we do, and everything we believe in revolves around our CLASS values and the
distinct culture that we have built. The two main attributes that characterize our culture, as
our Chairman and Managing Director Ashok Soota says are high achievement orientation and
high caring.

Workplace
Innovation in the physical infrastructure we provide takes many forms. Our space is brought
to life with colourful paintings by children from the Spastics Society of India, providing visual
stimulus and a source of inspiration to our people. Innumerable writable surfaces allow for
spontaneous ideation and creative expression. An open-door policy, evinced by open floor
plans and community areas, encourages a culture of trust and openness within the
organization.

Social sensitivity
We at MindTree take a high-involvement, low-visibility approach to our social responsibilities.
We make an active effort to integrate differently-abled people into the organization, treating
them on par with other employees. Our leadership are members of Technologists for Social
Action, a volunteer-based initiative that arranges regular trips to old age homes, orphanages,
and a refugee home for kids of Sri Lankan refugees. We have also adopted a school in
Dharmapuri, providing logistical, financial, and social support to its students and staff. To us,
these initiatives are not marketing gimmicks; they are an integral part of our identity.

Visual Identity

Our visual identity is a differentiator in and of itself. Unlike most corporate brand identities,
ours was designed by a differently-abled child rather than a graphic designer.

Chetan K.S., a student of the school run by the Spastics Society of Karnataka, India, suffers
from motor and speech disabilities associated with cerebral palsy. Like most persons afflicted
with this disability, Chetan’s fine mind is trapped in a disobedient body. He was one of ten
such students who listened to us as we explained our vision, our mission, and our value
system. Each child then submitted an original work of art that represented the ideas that we
wanted to convey; we chose Chetan’s masterful work as our visual identity.

Chetan’s creation was presented to the world on August 18, 1999 in the form of our logo. The
blue, red and bright yellow MindTree logo stands for the individual elements of our corporate
DNA: Imagination, Action, and Joy. The decisive skyward, blue brush stroke communicates
imagination. The red stands for action. The bright yellow bubbles represent joy
A) Message from CEO (Pg. 5, Annual Report 2007-08)

We have used the same concepts to partner with schools and colleges to serve the
communities we live in. A vibrant community is a vibrant us. Our employees have
contributed more than 25,000 hours towards community initiatives. Our employees are
working closely with several NGOs in the areas of education of underprivileged children. We
serve our community initiatives with a sense of humility and are privileged to have
contributed to associations such as Swadhar, Jagruti Seva Sanstha, American India
Foundation’s digital equalizer program and Junior Achievement initiative.

We have tasked ourselves to ensure that our workforce comprises colleagues from differently
abled members of the society. Our offices are designed to accommodate special needs of
such members of our workforce.

B) MphasiS’ing Community Involvement (Pg. 6-7, Annual Reprot 2007-08)

Corporate Social Responsibility, is core to the spirit of MphasiS and as a company, we strive to
contribute richly
to the communities in which we live and work.
Community Initiatives, at MphasiS, revolve around three key pillars
• Primary education for the marginalized with focus on initiatives that enhance employability
• Working with People with disabilities with focus on assimilation into the workforce
• Encourage Employee volunteerism at MphasiS with focus on giving back to the community

Looking back at 2007

Primary education for the marginalized with focus on initiatives that enhance employability
MphasiS believes that quality education leads to improved learning, cognitive skills, creating
a diverse pool of qualified and talented human resource.

Through its initiatives in Education, MphasiS has positively impacted the life of over 9000
children spread across states like Maharashtra and Karnataka and locations where MphasiS is
located. These initiatives are aimed at equipping children and youth with knowledge and
skills to succeed in school and effectively launch themselves in a productive career.

Our support to quality education is based on financial and service donation to non-profit
organizations working in some of the most poverty stricken pockets of urban India.

Our partners include NGOs like Each One Teach, Swadhar, Jagruti Seva Sanstha, American
India Foundation and Junior Achievement. We reached out to 9000 children – benefiting them
greatly. Of our funding, only 5% were incurred on administrative costs, making the program –
direct, efficient and result oriented.

Working with People with disabilities with focus on assimilation into the workforce

Creating an inclusive and diverse workplace is key to our corporate mission. We, at MphasiS,
believe that our work is suited for a talent pool that is yet unexplored and hence the focus on
persons with disabilities. Between 2004 and 2006, we were able to hire 40 persons with
disabilities.

One of the reasons for low employment rate of people with disabilities is the lack of
accessible educational and training facilities in the country. Even those who have completed
their senior secondary or graduation have mostly done so either in local medium schools or
through correspondence. As a result, they are unable to clear the test and interview rounds.
Therefore, we felt the need to focus on increasing employability through an intensive and
structured pre employment training, which would enable them to compete on equal footing
with other candidates.

Corporate Social Responsibilities
REL firmly believes that any amount of economic progress is meaningless and incomplete
without balanced social development. Economic prosperity is a goal for a small percentage of
people, but balanced social development is an absolute necessity for the entire humanity.
REL is always willing and ready to contribute its might, in whatever possible manner towards
social development.

As one of the social responsibilities REL believes in training and developing less privileged,
wanting people. Towards striking a corporate balance REL always reserves portion of its
employment opportunities for enthusiastic capable people with lower educational
qualifications. Training the lower qualified people is a constantly carried out process at REL
and this process apart from contributing to the social responsibility has paid rich dividends to
REL professionally and commercially.

Some of the high ranking officials of REL and current champions of the industry were
enthusiastic but non qualified people at the time of their recruitment into REL. With proper
training and hand holding, REL has been able to develop these people as an asset for the
company and torch bearers of the jewellery industry. REL firmly believes in cultivating people
who want to work but are not fortunate enough to acquire the right qualification for various
reasons.

REL also involves itself in many social, educational and community causes on a regular basis.
REL believes in conducting these activities discreetly.

Community
Happiness and enjoyment of the people is as important as the economic growth. Globally
people strive hard to achieve economic success to ensure happiness and enjoyment for
themselves and for people around them. In the blind pursuit of financial one-upmanship, a
part of humanity has lost sight of the actual happiness and joy. The ultimate aim and the
reason of all economic activity is to ensure a safe and a happy life. REL firmly believes and
wants its people to participate in activities and programs which bring joy, happiness and
fulfillment.

REL conducts and sponsors various religious, sports and environmental awareness activities
which bring happiness and joy to its people and also to the other members of public. For the
benefit of its people REL conducts annual VISHWAKARMA DAY festivities at the manufacturing
facility premises which are attended by thousands of people. On this day various sports and
cultural competitions are conducted among its people and their families. Special events are
conducted for young children. Professional entertainment troops are called in to entertain and
adorn the price distribution ceremony which goes well into the night.

REL conducts quiz competitions amongst its people on the annual day which are well
attended. REL has well developed cricket teams among its employees. REL conducts annual
cricket competition among its employees. The cricket teams of REL also participate in outside
competitions and have brought glory to the company by winning many championships.

Apart from in-house activities REL also regularly sponsors sports championships conducted by
various clubs and organizations. REL has sponsored several All India Tennis Championships
and also Cricket Tournaments. REL firmly believes that all-round human growth is possible
only by ensuring happiness, joy and fulfillment among the people and not just by economic
activities.

Life is a celebration. A reason enough to raise a toast and party! So sipping your drink and
getting high on life is great indeed, as long as you drink and enjoy responsibly!

USL defines responsible drinking as legal, considerate and conscious.

United Spirits has a strong commitment towards spreading the message of enjoying and
drinking responsibly. Over the years, United Spirits has led several campaigns and
undertaken a variety of activities to popularize the message:

* At USL, we ensure that our marketing and communication strategies are responsible and
informative, aimed at creating awareness in our consumers.
* We abide by all the guidelines and codes as specified by the law.
* We constantly endeavor to create awareness about responsible drinking through our
advertising campaigns.
* We support and spread the “ No drunken driving ” message through all points of
purchase material, packaging and other promotional avenues available to reach the
customers.

Responsible Communication
In the year 2006, United Spirits Limited (USL) in collaboration with Confederation of Indian
Beverage & Alcohol Companies (CIBAC), embarked on a campaign, as a part of the 'Enjoy
Responsibly' awareness program, which featured essential messages such as: 'No drunken
driving', 'No excessive drinking' or 'Counting your drinks', 'No underage drinking'. The same
message was also implemented in the TVC and Radio campaigns. The message "Don't drink
and drive" was aired repeatedly followed by an SMS number 3636. In a unique strategy to
prevent drunk driving, the SMS number was provided for people to avail cab services if drunk,
in all the 6 major metros.

Party Responsibly
To make your party a rocking success, here are some Do's and Don'ts that make for Drinking
and Enjoying Responsibly.

# Prepare yourself
If you are sure that you will be drinking a lot, hydrate your body by drinking fresh juice before
leaving for the party.

# Eat drink & make sense

Don't go on a drinking spree. Eat before and while drinking. This slows down alcohol
absorption.

# Count your drinks

Be the master of your mind and don't be enslaved by any addictions. Set your limits. Count
your drinks and stop when you reach your limit.

# Drink but don't get drunk

Getting drunk at a party smells cheap. Drunken behavior can damage your reputation and
affect your life socially, personally and also professionally.

# Party real
A party is not just about drinking and eating. It's about socializing and meeting people.
Interact with people, laugh, joke and sing.

Wipro Cares is an initiative by the Wiproites, their family members and friends to contribute
in the areas of education, community and social development. Wipro Cares philosophy is to
utilize the collective wisdom of volunteers to bring long term benefits and satisfaction to the
community, as we believe that providing funds alone will not help the community. This is a
unique corporate experiment to channelise the contributions of the Wiproites matched by
Wipro, and the desires of Wiproites to make meaningful contributions to society, on a
continuous basis.
Wipro Cares contributes through two pronged strategy: providing rehabilitation to survivors of
natural calamities and enhancing learning abilities of children from the under privileged
sections of the society
Leaning enhancement :Wipro Cares has initiated Learning Enhancement Programmes at
schools catering to the children from the under privileged section of the society. The main
objectives of this programme is to improve the standards of learning, build confidence, ignite
curiosity, broaden their awareness levels, improve their communication skills in English ,
build a healthy self-esteem and help them break through self imposed limits to achieve
his/her greatest potential. In line with its focus, these programmes have been successfully
implemented in Olcott Memorial School in Besantnagar, Chennai and Government Secondary
School in Viveknagar, Bangalore.
The Olcott Memorial School in Besantnagar, Chennai is a 110 years old Tamil medium school
run by the theological Society. Wipro Cares volunteers work with the students of classes 4
and 5 (total strength -120 children), for about two hours on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of
every month. The Government Secondary School in Viveknagar, Bangalore in run in three
different languages-Tamil, Telegu and Kannada.Volunteers who are comfortable in
communicating in one of these languages take up the responsibility of each class where they
devote 2 hours every Saturday. The volunteers work with children from class 2 onwards. As we
go along, we plan to roll this programme in several more schools and in other cities.
Wipro Cares volunteers devote 2 hours every Saturday with the ultimate desire to make
learning fun for these children. Once the volunteer builds a good rapport with a group of
three-four children, he or she would work on the holistic development of these children - to
instill confidence among them, to build communication skills, encourage their creativity and
thinking ability.
Makkala Jagriti - Wipro Cares Learning Centre:A Learning Center focused on providing
enriching, exciting, safe and secure environment to children from under privileged sections of
the society was inaugurated by Makkala Jagriti, and Wipro Cares in Bangalore. Makkala Jagriti
is an NGO, whose focus is to work with underprivileged children in the area of education. The
Learning Centre will also provide opportunities for contributing to the community to Wipro
employees, their friends and families. They can get involved by interacting, involving,
teaching & learning in mutually enriching way to reach quality-learning environment to the
economically disadvantaged children in an integrated manner through the Learning Centre..
Summer Camp for Children : The idea of interacting with the children of the school using
creative and innovative ways such as arts, crafts and other fun activities appealed to the
Wipro Cares volunteers. It had two fold objectives: First, to stay in touch with the children that
they were involved with during the summer break. Second, to make the summer holidays
enjoyable for these children, who would otherwise have to spend time playing with mud and
sand outside their homes, when their parents go to work. The activities also brought forth the
hidden talents of these children (and the volunteers!) be it story telling with hand puppets,
painting or clay modeling.
A group of volunteers took on the additional responsibility of organizing the camp, with the
support of the administration. They planned out different activities every Saturday. The
summer camps also helped these children develop their skills, confidence and motivation to
succeed not just in classrooms but in life.

Providing Basic Infrastructure at the School

For a child to come regularly to the school and stay interested in school activities, it is
necessary hat the school is equipped with proper infrastructure. Moreover, research has
shown that lack of toilets facilities for girls is the main reason for the high drop out rates
among students. In the Government School in Veveknagar, Bangalore-India, Wipro Cares has
Profitability is nowadays a main need in any company. But the truth is that profitability is not
something that can be achieved and held onto only by itself. And here is where every
company requires a fundamental resource: its people!

In an economic environment always changing, moving and demanding, companies are

starting to understand the responsibility of providing its employees with the methods to
improve its personal and family life. This effort requires policies to answer the particular
needs of each person working in the corporation. This kind of practice is not only beneficial
for employees, but also for the companies, because it gives them the chance of attracting
and retaining professional talents.

A company engaged with its people - Advanta Semillas SAIC (Argentina)

Following this trend, Advanta Semillas SAIC offers its employees' children in Argentina, for the
fifth consecutive year, the Scholarship Program for Superior Studies.

This scholarship consists of an economic contribution, paid between March and December, to
be applied for all kinds of educational expenses. The scholarship is designated to those who
are about to start superior studies, or for those who are already studying.

First year students are all considered, having to prove in the following stages certain
academic level to keep the scholarship. This benefit not only promotes superior education,
but also the excellence and the spirit of effort and development.

In the five years since this program was created, the company has not only perceived an
increase of applications, but also has known the joy of seeing several of the scholarship
holders get graduated in different specialities.

The goal of the Advanta Scholarship Program is to contribute to the development and growth
of its employees' children. It's through this benefit that Advanta Semillas SAIC shows the
importance that the company gives to superior education, not only as a way to achieve
