Buttercup

When she hears Westley

has died she loses all
desire to live and
becomes subject to
Prince Humperdinck.
She is ready to marry a
man she doesn't love
because she has nothing
else to live for. She also
threatens to kill herself
multiple times
throughout the movie if
she does not get to
marry or see Westley.

Buttercup suffers from

major depressive
disorder because she
experiences persistent
and continous feelings
of sadness and she also
is seen to have a loss of
interest in things (ie
living). She also
experiences feelings of
worthlessness seeing as
she is ready to submit to
a man she doesn't love
and has undergone
serious trauma due to
the loss of the man she
does love.

I would recommend
cognitive behavioral
therapy because
Buttercup had
undergone a lot of stress
and trauma. CBT will
help her understand that
her past events do not
shape who she is and it
will change the way she
thinks, feels and
behaves. It'll also allow
her to overcome her
negative thoughts about
ending her life and
marrying a man she
doesn't love.

Count Rugen

Count Rugen is ruthless

when it comes to
dealing with others. He
not only killed Indigo
Montoya's father but he
shows no empathy when
using his machine on
Westley without trying
it out first and he overall
likes to torture people.

Count Rugen has

antisocial personality
disorder because he
constantly performs acts
that show grounds for
arrest. He shows
impulsive behaviors by
carelessly using his
machine without trial to
torture Westley and he
shows absolutely no
signs of remorse. He is
also easily irritable and
aggressive and is very
deceitful.

For patients with ASP I

would recommend the
use of lithium because it
is known to reduce
aggression and
combative and
threatening behaviors.
It'll also help stabilize
the person's mood
swings. However
another method could be
group therapy with the
patient's family for it
may help them realize
the impact of their
behavior. An alternative
method could be
confinement because it
may be the best way to
control their most active
manic periods.

Humperdinck

Prince Humperdinck
does not care who he
hurts as long as he gets
what he desires. He had
his own fiancee
kidnapped and then
almost killed just so he
could start a war. He

Humperdinck has
antisocial personality
disorder because he has
little to no regard about
people's rights. For
example, he could care
less whether Buttercup
killed herself or not, he

Indigo Montoya

Indigo has been

obsessed with finding
his father's killer since
he was very young. He
became so enthralled in
the idea of killing the
murderer that he spent
20 years of his life
learning to sword fight
and brings it up in
conversation to
everyone he meets.
Also, when he is about
to kill Rugen, he keeps
on repeating the same
phrase which is, My
name is Indigo
Montoya. You killed my
father. Prepare to die.

Indigo Montoya has

obsessive compulsive
personality disorder
because, like it was
previously said, he is
obsessed with finding
his father's killer. He
partakes in obsessive
behaviors such as sword
fighting, speaking about
sword fighting and with
repeating the phrase
My name is Indigo
Montoya. You killed my
father. Prepare to die.

I would recommend
aversive conditioning
therapy because it
involves gradually
exposing the patient to
their feared
object/obsession. Which
would then lead to
alleviating his stress. I
could also recommend
psychoanalytic therapy
because Indigo
underwent deep trauma
as a child, which is what
triggered his life long
obsession. With
psychoanalytic therapy
the therapist could
reveal the unconscious
content of his disorder
in order to alleviate his
pain.

Vizzini

Vizzini, even though

incredibly dense,
believes he is the
smartest human being to
ever walk this earth.
Due to this he believes
that he should get
whatever he wants by
making other people
work for him. Even
when he is facing
Westley he believes he

narcissistic personality
disorder because he
believes there is no man
smarter than he is in the
world. He constantly
exaggerates his own
sense of importance and
his abilities (ie his
intelligence). He shows
a lack of empathy for

because he is incredibly
passive and subordinate
towards those around
him. He does whatever
Vizzini tells him to and
even after Vizzini dies,
he follows everything
Indigo and Westley told
him to do. He constantly
relies on others to take
care of him as well as
guide him.

Psychotherapy is the
best treatment
Especially with a focus
on solutions for very
specific life problems.
However, in this case
the sessions would have
to be shorter in case the
patient develops some
sort of dependency on
the therapist. A date of
termination should also
be agreed upon by both
the therapist and the
patient, again to prevent
future dependent
tendencies.

Miracle Max

Miracle Max keeps to

himself a lot and
initially refuses any
human interaction. He is
shown as very alarmed
and incredibly neurotic.

Miracle Max has

schizotypal personality
disorder because of his
odd and eccentric
personality.
The few seconds
Miracle Max is on
screen he is shown to be
strange and easily
excitable. He doesn't
seem to enjoy much
human interaction for he
initially tried to make
his guests go away.

Antipsychotic drugs
could be prescribed in
order to alleviate some
symptoms that cannot
be cured, like psychotic
episodes and anxiety.
Psychotherapy could be
used to allow the patient
to create a trusting
relationship with their
therapist. This could
also teach the patient
social and behavioral
skills that'll help them
cope with their disorder.
Group therapy with
family members might
also help create a
trusting relationship
between the patient and
their family.
