Ferris State Student Health Promotion Event
Each year, over 14,000 students are enrolled at FSU,
and over 9,000 at the main campus in here in Big
Rapids. Many of our students are experiencing
independent living for the first time.
The Ferris State Student Health Promotion Event
(FSSHPE) aims to helps students maintain and
reinforce healthy lifestyles for independent living in
the university setting and beyond.

Need for Services

Studies show the transition to higher education results in

more sedentary activity and more rigid eating habits that

result in weight gain (DeForche, et al., 2015).
Weve all heard of the freshman 15 referring to the
inevitable weight gain during the first year of college. There
is evidence to back that up.
Deliens, et al. state there are individual and outside
influences that determine physical activity in university
(2015).

Need for Services

In addition to education about nutrition, exercise and

stress management, we will be available to help students

modify behavior to reflect more healthy lifestyles and to
determine what outside influences may be sabotaging
their success.
Many students are still on their parents health
insurance. They may avoid services at a regular doctors
office to keep their parents from knowing about certain
conditions, including STIs. FSSHPE provides free
confidential services to students to ensure they get the
care they need while maintaining their privacy.
