ICT LESSON OUTLINE Microsoft Word and basic keyboarding. Students will practice basic keyboarding (typing name and numbers) while using Microsoft word.
Grade Level: Grade 1 Objective: Students will practice basic keyboarding (typing name and numbers, attempting to use different fonts and colours) while using Microsoft Word. Resources: Microsoft Word Keyboard to show students Procedure: 1. Point out certain keys on the keyboard such as the Enter key, letters, numbers, the space bar and backspace. Have students point to them on their computer as you show them on the SMART Board. 2. Show students how to open Microsoft Word on their computer (use SMART Board to first show them on there). 3. With Word open, have the students type one sentence about themselves (name, suburb, people in family, age, etc). 4. Tell them to press the Enter key 3 times. 5. Then tell students to type the numbers 1-10, separated by the spacebar. 6. Next, have the students use the Backspace button to delete all of the numbers. 7. Tell the children that now they will change the font of their first sentence. 8. Explain the different ways of altering font. (bold, italic, underline, bigger, smaller, CAPITALS, colour).
