Preparing To Do Piaget Conservation Experiments

Experiment !
#1 Name

Materials
Needed

Conversation of liquid
3 glasses 2 of them have the same
size sand the other one is taller and
thinner, and colored water.

Exact words i will say

Here we have 2 glasses with colored water,
what do you think is there the same amount
of water?

I will show her the glasses that have exactly

the same amount of water.

Now we will see if the glasses still have

the same amount of water.

while the child is watching, I pour water

from one glass into a taller glass.

Do the glasses still have the same

amount of water or they are deferent
now?

I will bring it near from the child to

watch clearly.

How do you know it is different

amount of water ?

What i will do when i say these words

Conversation of mass
clay

Exact words i will say

What i will do when i say these words

Do the balls have the same amount of clay

I will show the child two balls of clay that are

of equal size and shape.

Do these two pieces have the same

amount of clay or they are different.

while the child is watching, I will flat one

ball of clay.

How do you know they are deferent

amount of clay?

I will bring it near from the cild to

watch the clay clearly.

#3 Name

Materials !
Needed

Conversation of pieces
Chocolate and knife.

Exact words i will say

What i will do when i say these words

Do I share it fairly or not?

I will give the child one piece of chocolate

and for me two pieces and all of them have
exactly the same size.

Why do you think I did not share it fairly?

I will break her chocolate into two pieces.

Now do you think I share it fairly ?

I will bring it near from her to watch it

clearly.

How do you know I share it fairly?

I will point on the chocolate.

Concrete-Operational stage Report 1

Name of child: Reem

9 Years old

Gender: female

Name of experiment 1 : Conversation of liquid

Basic procedure of the task: !
I will bring 3 glasses, two of them have the same sizes and the same amount of colored water, and
the other one is taller and empty, so while the child is watching I will pour water from one glass into
the taller glass then it will show that the taller glass have a huge amount of water but actually it is
the same amount of water but shows like this because of the shape of the glass. However I will ask
the child if it is still the same amount of water or it is deferent. !
Childs responses: !
Reem told me that she think it is not deferent it is still the same amount of water, but it shows that
they are deferent because of the shape of the glass. The tall glass can make the liquid looks like it
is huge amount of liquid but it is actually the same amount on the short glass, and the short glass
make the liquid looks small amount of liquid.
What do the childs responses signify?
Actually Reem answered all the questions correct. in this experiment there is no right and
wrong, because each child think on deferent way. So she definitely in concrete-operational
stage, I know that when she answered me also I know it from her age. Concrete stage is from
age 7 to 11 and Reem is 9 years old.

Concrete-Operational stage Report 2

Name of child: Reem
Name of experiment 2 : Conversation of clay
Basic procedure of the task: !
I will bring two balls have the same amount of clay, while the child is watching I will flat one ball
then I will ask her if it is still the same amount of clay or they are deferent.
Childs responses: !
Her answer was: Yes they are still the same amount of clay because you just flat the ball you did
not add some of clay or take some of clay thats why it is still the same.
What do the childs responses signify?
And also here she answered correctly and she know the deferent between taking and adding clay
or change the shape. She know in the first experiment the shape can not change the amount of
liquid here also she know the shape can not change the amount of clay.

Concrete-Operational stage Report 3

Name of child: Reem
Name of experiment 3 : Conversation of pieces
Basic procedure of the task: !
I will give the child one piece of chocolate and two pieces for me, all of them have the same sizes,
so I will ask her if I share it fairly or not, then she will say no. I will break her chocolate into two
pieces then I will ask her if I share it fairly or not.
Childs responses: !
Reem told me that I still did not share it fairly because I just broke it and didn't gave her another
piece. and she told me also she have two pieces but they are not the same sizes of mine.
What do the childs responses signify?
She know all experiment and answered correctly because she is in concrete stage and she should
know them. She know that if I broke the chocolate we will have the same huber of pieces but we
dont share it fairly because she have half and I have two complete pieces.

Pre-operational stage Report 1

Name of child: Hind

4 years old

Gender: female

Name of experiment 1 : Conversation of liquid

Basic procedure of the task:!
Childs responses: !
Her answer was: Yes there is different amount of water, in the tall glass huge amount of water and
the short glass is small amount of water.
What do the childs responses signify?
I know she is in pre operational stage because her age is 4 and this stage is from 3 to 7 also
because she dont know the deferent between changing the shapes and adding water.

Pre-operational stage Report 2

Name of child: Hind
Name of experiment 2 : Conversation of clay
Basic procedure of the task: !
I will bring two balls have the same amount of clay, while the child is watching I will flat one ball
then I will ask her if it is still the same amount of clay or they are deferent.
Childs responses: !
Her answer was: No they dont have the same amount of clay, the ball have a huge amount of clay
and the flat one is less.
What do the childs responses signify?
When she answered she prove that she is in pre operational stage because she think the flat one
have small amount of clay but they are actually the same.

Pre-operational stage Report 3

Name of child: Reem
Name of experiment 3 : Conversation of pieces
Basic procedure of the task: !
I will give the child one piece of chocolate and two pieces for me, all of them have the same sizes,
so I will ask her if I share it fairly or not, then she will say no. I will break her chocolate into two
pieces then I will ask her if I share it fairly or not.
Childs responses: !
When I broke her chocolate told me that we are now have the same number of pieces and I share
it fairly.
What do the childs responses signify?
She just focused on the numbers of the pieces, and it is natural because she still 4 years old and
still in pre-operational stage and there is deforestation between those stages and it is effect on
the way that they think.
