Bronte School

Headmasters Newsletter 26
30th January 2015
Bronte children acquitted themselves most favourably in last
weeks ISA cross country championships. In the boys event, of
a field of 92 ,William Ansell came 55th, Ian Dermit 44th, Ben
Maynard 31st, and Jamal Tahir 30th. These were fine results,
over a tough course, and very well done to the whole team.

This week has seen the first Year 5 After School

Tutorials (ASTs), which are available for mathematics, English
and reasoning, and are a development from the maths booster
classes, ASTs, taught in groups no larger than 3, look to provide
a different learning experience, with the aim of adding to
understanding and helping confidence. The week started very
well, and I am grateful to all staff involved, and to Mrs Prescott
and Mrs Gordon in particular for their working in administering
the different courses.
Another piece of sports news is the result of a finely balance
house football match which, as I write this, has just ended. In
the end Hood gained a narrow victory over Nelson, by 3 goals
to 2.

Year 2 have been learning about puppets from around the

world everything from Punch & Judy to huge Chinese
dragons. The children performed shows with a puppet
theatre and made shadow puppets which they used to tell a
story from behind the screen. The next project is sewing
our own hand puppets.
