1. Calculate the specimen penetration value by considering the average of five (5) different
values.
Penetration Value = R1 + R2 + R3 + R4 + R5

Where, R is the penetration reading at different locations.
Sample of calculation:
For Sample 1:
Penetration Value = 41 + 38 + 33 + 41 + 29 = 36.4 mm

2. Determine the penetration value for material.

(Note: Grade of bitumen 40/50, 60/70, 80/100, 120/150 and 200/300)
The penetration value of the material is 26.8 mm which lies between 20mm-30mm. Therefore,
the grade of bitumen is 20/30.
