Allow students to reflect on their own experience and make
connections with meanings present in the Bible and in Jesus
Allow students to explore suffering in the Bible and the reasons why
Jesus had to suffer as well as secular understandings of suffering

Introduction/focusing activity (The lesson begins with this activity.)

Remind students that their holiday homework is due and that a


hard copy is needed with their name on it. Those who have not
completed this task will be asked to stay behind at lunch

teacher will ask students for words and meanings of suffering before
contributing them to the map

What does the reading tell us about suffering and what should we do about it?
In what ways did Jesus suffer and what significance does it have to Christians?
What does it say about suffering and what advice could it give to someone?

Does the quote you have used leave anything out, could it be used in some cases and not in others? Why/why not?

Closure (Options include: summarising or reflecting on the learning achievements/analysing errors; the
presentation of selected students work/preparation for future lesson/s etc.)
