Is Hizb ut-Tahrir a Cult?

The term cult has several definitions. When referring to a religious group, however,
it usually means a grouping that in some sense considers itself exclusive. Thus, Hizb
ut-Tahrir (HT) asserts that it is the only group that understands the full meaning of
Islam (ibadah+puasa+Khilafa!). A cult expects total loyalty and unquestioned
obedience so too does HT of its members. And a cult has some unusual doctrines,
in order to define itself from every other similar grouping. Some of these may not be
available to outsiders or be presented only to certain members. Hizb ut-Tahrir thus fits
the definition of a cult.
