Should There Be Gun Control?
Over the past 6 years, there has been a debate for gun control. The second amendment
has been under fire from liberals in america; they claim that guns are the reason for such high
murder and gun-related crime rates. There are two sides to the debates that have been going on:
the pro-guns and the anti-guns. The anti-gun supporters want all guns that have more than 7
(depending on what state, some are stricter) bullets to be banned from the public, they are also
trying hard to get assault weapons banned. The anti-gun debaters want the second amendment
to be reajusted to fit modern day, claiming our forefathers had muskets in mind when they made
it. The anti-gun debaters last point is that less guns results in more safety, they think disarming
the general populace and giving the military and law enforcement guns will increase safety. I
believe that the anti-gun protesters are just flat out wrong, they have no idea what this country
needs in a modern day society.
Anti-gun protesters have been trying to get a ban on guns with sometimes more than
seven bullets; Their reasoning behind this is that we do not need large capacity magazines for
guns, we should only have a few. "No one hunts with an assault rifle. No one needs 10 bullets to
kill a deer," he said. "End the madness now!" (Gormely), the governor of new york claimed this
at a gun control rally. If the government was to restrict guns based on the ammunition they carry,
the choice for guns would be close to nothing. In the modern world most guns have 10 plus
bullets. The claim that we don't need 10 bullets to hunt a deer is absurd, the second

amendment was not made for hunting, it was made for protecting ourselves. In the event of a
tyrannical government, or a foreign occupation, the civilians of the United States have a duty to
protect their country, with restricting gun laws, they are taking away our power to do that. Aside
from banning guns based on ammunition, anti-gun protesters are trying to ban guns based on
names.
Such weapons show up again and again in mass shootings. (Baltimore Sun) The
Baltimore Sun gave a review on why assault weapons should be banned, they claim that features
on the guns give them an advantage over other guns, and that they are military grade weapons.
Some of the features they say give the assault rifles an advantage are, a pistol grip, an
adjustable stock, a foregrip, and the ability to fire multiple times in rapid succession. None of
those features give any advantage to the weapons, the guns fire the same type of ammunition as a
hunting rifle, and only skilled shooters can use them to fire in rapid succession. The reason they
do not like the assault weapons, is that they look and act like military weapons, the only
difference is that the military versions of the weapon are far more deadly. When people think of
assault weapons, they think of massacres, anti-gun protesters have manipulated the general
public into thinking that the second amendment should be readjusted to fit modern weapons.
Second Amendment was a political response to the security situation two centuries ago.
(huffington post) The second amendment, which was made by our forefathers, was coming under
fire from liberals and anti-gun protesters. They say it was created with a musket in mind as a
weapon, and that they didn't think ahead to how advanced we would become; They also say that
the guns back then couldn't be used in rapid succession, making them non lethal. Our forefathers
made this with a musket in mind, thats true, but back then a musket was a military grade weapon;
Yet they still allowed it to be used by civilians. The musket was a single bullet rifle that took

about 30 seconds to reload. Military trained shooters could reload the weapon in about 10
seconds, making it very efficient and deadly; That is the same case with todays assault
weapons, only trained shooters can make them deadly. The second amendment gives us the right
to guns, which makes us safer as a whole.
According to liberal gun control protesters, guns are the reason gangs and other organized
crime exist, and they are also the reason so many rapes and murders happen. Their response to
these problems is to ban all guns thinking that will get rid of gangs and drop murder rates. If I
was a gang leader, and I needed a way to arm my gangsters, I would not go down to the local
bass pro and buy weapons for illegal activity, I would buy them illegally from a dealer, that way I
get more firepower for cheap. Nobody is going to use a legally purchased gun to commit a crime,
they will use illegal guns, so if we get rid of all the guns, it leave the innocent defenseless, and
the gangs still armed. Guns can be used to help prevent rapes, women who carry guns say that
they feel confident they can fight off attackers.
In conclusion, Liberals and anti-gun protesters have no idea what will keep this country
going. to many people own guns in this country for them to take them away, it simply will not
happen. If gun control laws are passed, it will send the United States on a road to another civil
war, but this time, it won't be on slaves, it will be against government tyranny.
