Rohit Daroch (2012EE50555), Shashank Kushwah (2012EE50556), Shubham Kumar (2012EE50558)

I. OBJECTIVE
To determine the impedance of the given load using slotted line measurement.
II. LIST OF COMPONENTS
Klystron or Gunn Source, Isolator, Variable attenuator, Wave meter, Detector, VSWR meter, Slotted Line,
Matched Termination, Slide screw Tuner.
III. INTRODUCTION
The unknown terminating impedance can be determined by measuring standing wave ratio and distance of
a convenient maxima or minima from the load. The unknown admittance is given by the transmission

equation as:

( )

1( )

where S = VSWR; d = Distance of first minima from the load. The

depth of the screw changes only reactive part of the admittance, so if line is matched, the load offered by the
screw for a certain depth is
= 1 +
Where B is the susceptance due to screw.

VI.
INFERENCE
The aim of this experiment is to calculate the unknown load impedance attached to the waveguide and
the variation of the reactive part of impedance (B) with respect to frequency and screw depth. The
graph between depth of insertion and reactive part of admittance was found to be linear and reactive
part of admittance decreases with increase in depth of insertion. The graph between frequency
and reactive part concluded that reactive part for the same load decreases as frequency increases.
