I was fortunate to again have another satisfying day with my students. I have
seen improvements with all of my students in their focus areas. The students
in year 2 have significantly improved with their sentence structure and the
students in year 5 have improved with their comprehension skills. It has made
me realise the benefit and usefulness of working with students in smaller
groups. I was fortunate enough to engage in a conversation with the special
education teachers about their use of external professionals such as speech
therapists, psychiatrists, psychologists and counsellors.
The teachers shared that for some students they need to work with external
professionals to ensure that they support in the school is beneficial for the
students. I was given the opportunity to look at some of the individualised
programs that the teachers have developed with the external professionals.
The use of external professionals is also important for any testing that the
students need to undertake to see if they are improving with the programs
they have been provided with as well as communicating with the students
parents to inform them of how their child is going.

Positive the school has many different areas in the schools with different
resources to enhance the students learning and understanding.
Negative I still feel as though 30 minutes is not sufficient time to work
effectively with some of the students.
Myself I want to volunteer in the following weeks at the school to continue
to work with the students, I have really enjoyed the experience and the
results I have also seen.
Questions How can I further extend the students? What resources can
support me?

I was looking forward to today as I had some new activities prepared for the
students which would bring them to the next step in their programs. Making
this change showed me that the extra one on one time the students were
receiving was very beneficial for their learning and development. It has been
great to see this take place as it has made me more aware of how I can
implement strategies into my classroom.
Drawing upon the discussion from yesterday about external professionals, I
was informed that the special education teachers were having a meeting with
the parents of one of the students to discuss the students individualised
program for speech therapy and to track the students progress and what
additional steps they need to take to continue to help the student. I was not
able to sit in on this meeting but was informed that the meeting was
successful and new goals had been set for the student to achieve.

Positive seeing the progression of my students throughout the past week

and a half has opened my eyes to the benefit of one on one work.
Negative I really do not want to leave the students as I was to continue to
see their growth and development.
