ALLIANCES

There were 2 major alliance in the that are going

to battle it out. The Triple Alliance consisting of
Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Italy. The other
alliance is the Triple Entente that consisted of
Britain, France, and Russia. Throughout the war
neutral countries had to join an alliances whether
they want to or not. Some countries try to recruit
other countries by telling them they will help
them. For example The Zimmerman Telegram is a
proposal from Germany offering military
assistance to Mexico just in case The U.S joins the
war. The British decode this writing and send the
information to The U.S. This was a major impact to
the result of the war.

PURPOSE OF TRENCH
He fought in a trench. Trenches were used to
protect them selves from machine guns.
Sometimes soldier would invade trenches and
then be killed in no mans land. No mans land is
the are between the trenches. No mans land is a
pretty deadly zone. Going over the top is when
you went up your trench and invaded another
trench pretty much a suicide mission. The
trenches had horrible living conditions. Your
dead friends would attract a lot of rats.

Edmund Frank was amazed

guns needed 4-6 men to
work them and had to be

the fire-power of 100

WESTERN FRONT
Edmund Frank fought in the Western
Front. The Western Front was the
name applied to the fighting zone in
France and Flanders, where the
British, French, Belgian and (towards
the end of the war) the American
armies faced that of Germany.

TENSION
Before World War I there was a lot of
tension with the power nations.
Imperialism was one of the biggest
factors. The power house colonized
other countries in order to become
more powerful. Another factor is
nationalism, pride for their country.
This made countries competitive and
they started spend more money on
military therefore creating militarism.

THE SPARK
Austria-Hungary and Serbia have always had
conflict with each other, but the last straw
occurred in Sarajevo on 28 June 1914 when
Archduke Franz Ferdinand was assassinated.
He was the heir to the Austro-Hungarian
throne. He was killed by Black Hand a
Serbian nationalist secret society, so AustriaHungary issued an ultimatum to Serbia to
bring the assassin to justice. Serbian wasnt
cooperative and they were both ready to go
to war. They have their allies fighting by their
side.
