Fraternities Argument Essay
According to the article 18 U.S. Presidents were Frat Boys (Konnikova, M.)(n.d):
Fraternity men make up 85 percent of U.S. Supreme Court justices since 1910, 63 percent of all
U.S. presidential cabinet members since 1900, and, historically, 76 percent of U.S. senators and
85 percent of Fortune 500 executives ... Fraternities really do breed leadersa cohort of young
men dedicated to being loyal, being knowledgeable, and embracing the skills of leadership
success. For centuries extensive types of organizations have existed. The one that will be
discussed on this paper as mentioned earlier is an extensin of Freemasonry, now a days known
as university fraternities or sororities. There are possitive but also negative qualities of being a
member of these noble institutions.
The big picture and the outside view for this assosiations are merely positive. At cause of
the creation of this associations there were many positive effects. One of the primary effects that
this fraternnities established was to choose their member by legacy, their economic power and
GPA. These societies were based on moral values, respect and loyalty . The finality of this
fraternities is to live in harmony and create a positive impact on society. To belong to these
groups has a lot of personal interests, comming from the members from the insitution due to the
fact that they have special privileges unlike regular and not-in-a-fraternity students. Just like they
had possitive outcomes, they also had negative due to the students that werent involved or
afiliated with this secret groups.

Fraternities are very limited to students. One negative and very powerful effect that these
fraternities have in students is such, that students are willing to do almost anything in order to be
socialy accepted and counted as a part of the fraternity and receieve such privliges. An article
called The Dark Power of Fraternities (Flannagan, C) (03, 2014) states: One warm spring
night in 2011, a young man named Travis Hughes stood on the back deck of the Alpha Tau
Omega fraternity house at Marshall University, in West Virginia, and was struck by what seemed
to himunder the influence of powerful inebriants, not least among them the clear ether of
youth itselfto be an excellent idea: he would shove a bottle rocket up his ass and blast it into
the sweet night air. This is a clear example that putting life at risk in order to be accepted is real
and taken lightly by those in the acceptance position.
In conclusion we can say that fraternities have a positive and a negative side, depending
on the perception and the position of the person. To belong in a fraternity is a unique method of
learning were students learn honesty and respect. Many people that dont belong to this societies
are open to say that they are bad due to the fact that the they feel left out and people that are
actually in it stand out on society. Also to belong on a fraternity helps you to mature your
idealism in conjunction with the ones from other people. These schools are progressive and with
lucrative meanings.
