African American Freedom Day
The removal of the
uncivilized and
demeaning asterisk
from Amendment
13, which
immobilized the
progress of
Mississippi until
February 7, 2013,
should be
memorialized and
celebrated by
commemoratively
observing February
7th as Mississippi
Day of Freedom and
Abolishment of
Slavery whereas
February 7, 2013
commemorates
freedom from
slavery in
Mississippi,
emphasizes
education and
achievement, and is
a day for reflection
and rejoicing in the

African-American
experiences and the
celebration of
February 7, 2013 as
Mississippi Day of
Freedom and
Abolishment of
Slavery is inclusive
of all races,
ethnicities, religions
and nationalities, in
that citizens across
our state joins hands
in acknowledgement
a period in our history
that has influenced
our society, a great
society that advances
the ideals of liberty
and justice for all.

Help Us Celebrate Mississippis Emancipation


Organizational Goals
CHURCHES
During your normal Black History Programs
and/or Activities, you may include a simple
announcement and/or skit educating your
Congregation about the importance of
Mississippis Emancipation.

EDUCATIONAL
Due African American History not being a part
of the normal curriculum, we are asking all
educational institutions, in the month of
February, to include the history of
Mississippis Emancipation as part of their
normal Black History Programs and/or take a
moment to recognize this event via intercom,
place flyers/announcements in the hallways
and on bulletin boards and a brief moment can
be taken on their lunch hour in recognition of
this holiday.

BUISNESSES
To show support in your business;
flyers/announcement can be placed in break
room(s), bulletin boards and a moment can be
taken via intercom to recognize this historical
event and a brief moment can be taken on
their lunch break in recognition of this holiday.

POLICE DEPT.
All departments; Police, Sheriff and Highway
Patrol, can participate in the Freedom Day
Recognition by posting flyers/announcements
on their bulletin boards/break rooms. An
announcement can be made on their intercom
to commemorate this day and a brief moment
can be taken during their lunch break to
commemorate this holiday.

MILITARY
All branches of the Military can participate in
this historical celebration by participating in a

voluntary Drill of their choice that recognizes


African American Emancipation and the
Militaries roll and contribution.

ORGANIZATIONS
Organizations such as; religious, community,
governmental, private, non-profit, Civil Rights
etc, can participate by including this day of
celebration inclusive as part of their annual
memorable days of celebration as this is one of
the most important days in the State of
Mississippi.

INDIVISUALS
African Americans natives of Mississippi,
whether living in or out of state, along with ALL
Mississippians and/or anyone who desires to
join in on this celebration can
support/participate by; joining us on February
6th 7th at our Awards Banquet which will honor
all of the Un-Sung Heroes of the Civil War,
Sharecropping and Civil Rights Era. Support
can be showed also by making a financial
donation to insure the success of this Historical
Annual Event that recognizes sacrifices and
contributions from 1861-2015, as we tell their
stories.

ELECTED OFFICIALS
To all elected officials, we are requesting your
participation and/or support by attending this
annual event, RSVPing their seat for the
banquet in advance, and/or take out an
ad(which you are responsible for) in our
Mississippi Emancipation Freedom Day Annual
Add Booklet. (Only high res. Photos accepted.)
