Subject: Brochure Assessment Memo
The community problem that we chose to address in our brochure was animal testing. There are
many categories of animal testing but we decided to focus mainly on animal testing in cosmetics.
We selected this particular issue because the United States is known for its few regulations
regarding animal testing. We wanted other people to be aware of the issue and have knowledge
about this topic, but also we wanted to show them what can be done for this to come to an end.
The most challenging part of our brochure was to investigate the different alternatives of animal
testing and what they consist of. Even though it was a very challenging task, list all the different
alternatives of animal testing was also the most important part of our brochure because the main
reason why we decided to choose that topic was to show people that are many other ways to
safely test cosmetics and, most important, that with their help in very easy steps, we as a
community, can put an end to the cruelty that those animals have to go through. We wanted to
demonstrate that regular civilians can be a key element in this movement.

We also had some issues making our design decisions. We were not very sure about what color
we wanted to use. At first, we wanted to use a forest-like green to represent nature, but then we
agree on not to use vivid colors because it could give the audience the wrong perspective.
Animal testing is a terrible thing, so we decided to use neutral colors, such as black and white
and then a little bit of red to make some contrast. We used an efficient amount of visuals, and at
the end, I believe we achieve a professional and well-structured design and I think that is the
most effective aspect of our brochure.

We started our brochure, obviously, with the cover page in the first panel. We used a black
background and big, bold red font to make contrast and appeal the viewers attention. We also
used a quote as an attention graver and a couple of images of animals that are regularly used in
animal testing. In the inside of the brochure, we added the information: what is animal testing
and all the truth behind it, some statistics in a graph, the types of animal testing and what they

consist of, and the most important, the alternatives of animal testing and what can people do to
take action. The visuals we used, were of animal that are regularly used in animal testing but we
decided to use images of animals that have not been tested on to not disturb the audience with
graphic pictures, instead we described all the procedures of every kind of test in detail to leave it
to the viewers imagination.

Thank you for your time; sincerely: Karina Monarrez
