When the wind blows Sr tr When the wind blows isa film directed by Jimmy T. Murakami based on a book written by Raymond Briggs. Murakami is also well known for his films, The Snowman and Christmas Carol - The Movie. His animations all have a similar style one which illustrative charm, The characters don't have much detail and warm simple colours. Voice starts include Peggy Ashcroft and John Mills. The animation is about an elderly couple Jim and Hilda who live alone in the countryside. Listening to the news on the radio and reading the newspaper the couple believe that the government knows best. The animation is based during the third world war, in hope that it'll all be over soon, And in order to stay safe from a nuclear explosion, jim build an indoor shelter for him and his wife. After surviving the blast we see the couple trying to survive through the after math. As the days go by we see the couple become very poorly due to the radiation poisoning. This animation is showing how people tried doing the right thing to survive. Listening to the government on how to ‘survive’ wasn't enough. This shows the effects the war had on people who weren't directly hit and how they tried surviving. This animation is a combination of illustrations and stop motion animation. The animation has a lot of talking between the couple, about how they’re feeling, their frustration and hope. The animation was great to look, | wouldn't really recommend this film as I feel it was very slow, however would recommend it for its great illustrative style.
