Class Reflection

My experience in TED 467 was quite unique. I thoroughly enjoyed the class as a whole, from the
discussions and activities to the assignments and feedback I received. I feel as though I have a better
understanding of what good teaching is and a larger base of resources from which to strengthen my
teaching practices. I am thankful for a great experience in this course.
During this semester we thoroughly examined each portion of a classroom lesson and practiced
writing each portion in a formal lesson plan. We then had a chance to apply methods we outlined in
lesson plans in real time with students in classrooms. After completing this we reflected on the outcome
of our lessons and what we could have effectively changed. This process proved to be beneficial in
developing specific teaching strategies and in the overall improvement of teaching practices. There were
specific issues we addressed, such as how to effectively engage students in the beginning of class, how to
build a sequence of activities that shift toward an objective, and how to assess whether students met their
objectives or not.
Lesson plan writing was another area of focus during this course. There were multiple tasks that
involved lesson plan writing in a formal style which proved difficult but meaningful. We were given
detailed and lengthy feedback which helped us understand the specifics of good lesson plan writing. Each
time we received feedback it was done in a constructive way that was helpful in order to build us up to a
point at which we could write a professional lesson plan in a teaching position. In the end I feel my ability
to write a lesson plan is much strong now than before I took TED 467.
I dont believe there was anything at all I would have changed about this course. The energy was
high from the professor and students, each lesson had a purpose, activities were meaningful, feedback
was rich and purposeful, and what we learned was valuable. Thank you.
