First 100 years of the


US (1776-1876)

Declaration of
Independence(1776)
The declaration of independence
was signed by Thomas Jefferson.
It declared that the United States
will be a nation.
Significance: The people there can
now live in the United States without
being controlled by Great Britain. It
gave them a new beginning of life.

George Washington
George Washington was elected to
become president of the
USA(1789-1797). He was elected
in 1789 and elected again in 1792.
He was a commander of the
Continental army during the
Revolutionary War.

Significance: First president


elected.

Steamboat

It was invented in
1787 by Robert Fulton.
The first successful
steamboat was
Clermont. They were
used for international
trading.
Significance: It made
transportation quicker.
Though it polluted the
air.

War of 1812-1815

A war between the US and


Britain. Britain no longer
wanted to do any trading with
the US. At that time the British
was in war with the French.
When they were done with the
French, they fought with
America.
o The Treaty of Ghent ended
the war.
o AKA Second war of
Independence.
Significance: Showed that the
United States of America is staying
as their own nation.

Nat Turner Rebellion (1831)


In Virginia, Nat Turner, a
slave, went on a killing spree
with other slaves. They were
armed with weapons in their
way. He killed about 60 slave
owners. A law was made to
prohibit slaves to have a
education
Significance: Gave the South
know what the slaves are
capable of.
Also gave some Blacks to have
an education in the North.

Trail of Tears (1838)

Andrew Jacksons idea


to get rid of the
Cherokee tribe to have
the territory in the
east of the Mississippi
river. Many of them
died from disease and
starvation.

Significance: Its a very


cruel event. Many died
and they journeyed a long
way.

Abraham Lincoln
Lincoln was the 16th
president. He served
as president for two
terms. (1861-1865)
Significance: He
abolished slavery!

Sewing Machine (1846)


They were invented in the
industrial revolution. They were
made to sew clothes together.
Elias Howe, Josef Madersperger,
Walter Hunt, and Barthelemy
Thimonnier contributed in the
invention of the machine.
Significance: It sew clothes and
women got to work with these
and made their own clothes to
sell or for themselves.

Civil War (1861)


This was war between the
North and the South. The two
sides did not agree with
slavery and the souh feared
that the north would take
control. The south no longer
wanted to be one with the
Union, they wanted to be
their own country.
Significance: Brought back
the south to the Union. End of
the war lead to the

Telephone (1876)

Telephone was invented by


Alexander Graham Bell. It enabled
people to talk from far distance.
Unlike the Telegraph, you could
hear the persons voice. It has a
microphone and a earphone.
Significance: Communication
leveled up. It enabled people to call
others from afar.
