--This message is from the GUIDANCE list provided by the South Carolina Department of Education.
--SC Department of Social Services/Independent Living Program has up to $5,000/yr per student in Education
and Training Voucher funds (ETV)
Eligible students:
1. Age 13 up to 21st birthday AND in foster care or in SCDSS custody after adoption
2. If student was either Adopted, Guardianship/Kinship Care, Reunified with family at or after age 16, but is not
yet 21
3. Student was in foster care at age 18, but is not yet 21
Students may be eligible to receive up to $5,000/yr per student up to age 23.
SCDSS Independent Living Program has MANY more services other than college funding for the eligible
groups listed above!
Email me at Mari.Squire@dss.sc.gov for an electronic copy of our ETV brochure and/or the IL Guidelines
Booklet, which lists the other services available to these students.
NOTE: Please encourage students to answer "YES" to the FAFSA question about being in foster care if it
applies and to complete the SC Need-based Grant for Foster Care Youth at the link below.
