RELATED COURSEWORK
Intro to AutoCAD and Civil CAD Applications Utilize all AutoCAD and CivilCAD applications to produce land
development plans, utilize various forms of survey and design data, design and develop residential
subdivision plans, design and draft the vertical elements of a road, develop 3D models from survey
data, calculate critical design elevations, and produce structural steel framing plans.
Civil and Environmental Drafting and Design Hand draft and design problems encountered in areas of
Civil and Environmental Engineering, including site analysis, site layout, grading and drainage,
utility layout profiles, erosion control and sustainable site design. Excellent lettering skills.
Surveying Principles Examine theory and practice of plane surveying including the use of tapes, levels,
and total stations. Resolve problems in triangulation, traverses, mapping and computation of areas,
proper field procedures, and field book entries. Excellent recordkeeping abilities and organizational
skills. Experience in the use of a total station.
Route Surveying Principles Examine and apply fundamental principles of highway and road design to
include safety, speed, terrain, and operating volumes as they apply to roadway width, side slopes
curvature, and gradient. Design problems include horizontal curves, compound curves, crosssection areas and volumes, and vertical curves with road alignments.
Construction Materials and Methods Study how construction materials and methods are used with
relation to the overall building industry, and the application of these in design, construction,
building codes, zoning ordinances, and building loads.
Principles of Site Development Study and apply fundamental concepts of site and subdivision planning.
Consideration is given to
zoning and subdivision ordinances, and governmental regulations. The site design project included
in the course incorporates design calculations and complete construction drawings for a small
subdivision.
Hydraulics and Hydrology Apply basic principles of hydraulics as related to the pipe distribution systems.
Examine sizing and
selection of pumps, open channel flow, flow through hydraulic structures, the elements of
hydrology, rainfall runoff analysis, drainage design, and flood flow analysis.

Intro to GIS Introductory course on hardware and software components of Geographic Information
Systems. Topics include data
structures and basic functions, methods of data capture and sources of data, and the nature and
characteristics of spatial data and objects. Typical operations, products, applications, and
differences between database models and between raster and vector systems are also discussed.
Cost Estimating and Planning Preparation of material lists and take-off quantities of materials and labor
costs from plans, working drawings and specifications. Used different methods of estimating to
perform quantity take-offs. Used industry specific software for project costing and scheduling.
