Applied Learning Experience

1. Analyze the essential knowledge and skills acquired in various college

courses within your discipline which were utilized in this experience. (In
the discipline)
I have learned to not only cooperate on projects like these but also learned
new programing skills throughout these certain classes. Such as the
programs Maya and Mudbox, which are 3 Dimensional character designing
and film editing programs. Through knowledge of these programs that were
taught to me from Professor Knut, and cooperation and leadership, my group
and I were able to overcome whatever challenges were laid upon us to
complete our project.
2. Analyzes the essential knowledge and skills acquired in courses outside
your discipline in core curriculum which were utilized in this
experience. (beyond the discipline)
Outside my core curriculum in my college courses I have received basic
knowledge from my high school career. Although I didnt learn any 3D
programming in high school, I did learn how to create a story board through
Audio/Video Production and Animation, I learned also how to create graphics
and titles through Graphics and Illustration which I was able to bring those
basic skills to the table whenever we created this animation. More in depth,
we were able to use our art history knowledge through several art or art
history courses to take on methods and different art works of others more
popular than our own.
3. Analyze the essential knowledge and skills acquired in experiences
outside the classroom which were utilized in this experience. (beyond
academics)
Outside of the classroom and I have learned experiences through several
jobs that deal with these skills. In high school I created videos for the high
school football team, through this I learned to edit, produce, and even direct
my own videos. Through the Adobes program Premiere Pro I was able to edit
and place voices or other forms of audio in these videos. I would also create
videos with my friends back home just for the fun of making videos. But my
biggest influence of my knowledge and skills outside of the classroom come
from my Intern2Learn internship with the Video Services in the
Communication department at Tarleton State University. Through this I have
been able to learn expert skills from my employer Mr. Mike Simpson, he is
experienced with producing, directing, and recording his own television
shows and has 50+ years of experience. I have been able to learn new ways
to film, direct, and create videos for Tarleton and for the world to see. This is
where most of my experience comes from and this is how I can stay updated
on helping my teammates out with this project.

within your discipline, in your general education courses, and in
extracurricular experiences. (making connections)
Throughout my college experience, high school experience, and outside the
classroom experience I have been able to learn new skills and make
connections with faculty, employees, and students alike. Since I was 15,
every course or new piece of equipment has had an impact on my
experience in learning new ways to help take my performance to become
even better. Especially with projects like this animation project. I can bring
my knowledge of directing, producing, story board creating, and cooperation
skills into this project.
5. Assess the impact of the applied learning experience on the
development of your global awareness in the context of academic,
political, social, cultural, and/or economic environments. (global
awareness)
First off, through the impact of ALE, I have learned more about academics,
social, cultural, and economic environment impacts around the world.
Through working with my internship, I have created interviews with people
from around the world that attend Tarleton to compete their studies. Through
interviews with them and even students that have traveled across the
country or the world to study abroad, I have been able to learn more about
other countries and their issues through the interviewees sharing their
knowledge with me. I have been able to learn cultural, social, and academic
backgrounds from these students and faculty.
I have also gained knowledge of the types of video and how culturally
impacted we as a country are affected, or even how other countries are
impacted by the US. To focus on one topic there are different types of film
that each country uses. Humor, drama, and romantic ties are different from
the United States. Some of these countries dont have the budget to
purchase new equipment that we or the United Kingdom has. Through
watching their film of movies, documentaries, or news reports, I have been
able to see how far they are in technology as a country.
6. Assess the experience and ascertain the larger implications as they
apply to the discipline and beyond. (broader impact)
Between everything that I have learned in the last 5 years, form videos to
graphics, I have been able to insert all of my knowledge to help create this
project. Although we didnt have great processing computers to help run our
project to its best. We were still able to complete our project, with the access
and knowledge of my experience I was able to help guide and cooperate with
my teammates into helping us with this discipline. Continuing with what I

learned from the Applied Learning Experience, this has been a new
experience with learning new programs and cooperating with new people.
But I have learned new skills that will create a huge impact on my future or
even in my career.
