Tylers Holocaust Education
My education of the Holocaust is somewhat limited. During middle school each year
was a different history topic. It was in 7th grade where I learned some of what happened during
the holocaust. I did not learn too much about it during 7th grade because it was only covered
during one chapter that year. I learned a little more about the Holocaust during high school.
During my junior the holocaust was discussed more than it was in my middle school but I still
believe I could have learned a lot more. I believe I could have learned more because whenever
we covered this topic during my education we did not spend a lot of time on the holocaust.
The first thing I know about the holocaust is Hitler believed in a pure race. He also
believed a lot of the problems in Germany were the Jews fault. There was the night called
Kristallnacht which is also referred to as the night of broken glass. On this night some of the
German forces went around and broke the glass of Jewish stores, buildings, and synagogues.
Also some of these buildings were set on fire and burnt down.
The second thing I know about the holocaust is how the German police went door to door
through Germany looking for Jews. When they found Jews the police would take the Jews and
they were sent to either concentration camps or forced-labor camps. I know a lot more about
concentration camps than I do about forced-labor camps. I know more about concentration

camps because when we learned about the holocaust in my earlier education we spent more time
on concentration camps more than anything else. I know the concentration camps was a terrible
place to be and very inhumane. In the concentration camps the Jews were put into small cells
with way too many people in them. There was a lot of sickness and disease inside of the
concentration camps because of the living conditions. I also learned how the people inside the
concentration camps were given hardly any food at all and very little water. The last thing I
know is how the Nazis murdered a lot of Jews in the concentration camps. They were either
taken to the ovens where they were killed with gas, or they were taken to the killing fields where
they were killed by a firing squad.
The last thing I know is how some Nazis after the war were punished for their actions of
the holocaust. I know that some of the Nazis were either sent to prison or were sentenced to
death for their war crimes which includes the holocaust.
Everything I learned about the holocaust growing up was in school. I know there is a lot more I
can learn and there are still quite a few questions. I want to know why Hitler believed in a pure
race, and what made him believe in a pure race when he did not look like the pure race that he
believed in. I want to know why Hitler blamed the Jews for some of Germanys problems, and
why he believed that the country would be better off without the Jewish race. Furthermore I
want to learn more about the force-labor camps. I want to learn what they were like and what the
living conditions were like inside of the camp. Another thing I would like to learn is how it was
decided on which people went to the concentration camps and who went to the forced-work
labor camps.
