Political Boundary Dispute Wikipedia Page

OVERVIEW:
Political boundaries between states are never permanent. As a result, most states experience
boundary disputes. Many boundary disputes are unsettled territorial claims, or a result of one
state desiring the resources of a neighboring state. Both geometric and physical political
boundaries have their advantages and disadvantages depending on the situation at a given
moment in time.
OBJECTIVE :
In a word document, create your own original Wikipedia page (with at least 10 hyperlinks)
dedicated to informing people about the territorial dispute of the border conflict that gives
sufficient background information as well as develops a plan to reconcile the two disputed
territories.
INSTRUCTIONS :
Choose a current political boundary dispute to research. Sign up on the google document (no
duplicates). A major maritime boundary dispute may be used as well. Include 3 maps charts and
graphs that support your topic.
PAST
Describe the historical context of the political boundary. What geographical factors played a role
in determining the boundary and or boundary alterations? How did the boundary evolve? What
factors helped to create the boundary in the first place? Make sure you highlight the critical
changes to the boundary, otherwise this section of the project could be extensive in length!
PRESENT
Discuss the present boundary situation. How does geography enter into the conflict? How serious
is the situation? What steps are being taken to resolve the problems? What geographical,
political, and cultural factors are making it difficult to solve the boundary dispute? Make sure
you examine the vantage point of each state in the conflict.
FUTURE
Analyze the information gathered and make future predictions regarding the viability of the
present boundary. What does the future hold given the dynamics of various social, political,
cultural, and environmental challenges that confront populations on both sides of the border?

What boundary(s) might make more sense in order to solve the dispute? Offer alternative
boundaries and critique your solutions. If this boundary conflict is not resolved will other states
get drawn into the conflict?
LIST OF SOURCES
Please cite sources accordingly and list sources in proper form like a Wikipedia page. Cite
sources on maps, charts, and graphs; and any information you borrowed from a source.
LENGTH
Entry should be at least 500 words and include 3 high quality graphics, pictures that supports the
information.

The Aegean Sea is the sea between Turkey and Greece. Any acquisition of new
maritime areas should be based on mutual consent and should be fair and
equitable. The most common tension is that the Greek perception is that the
Aegean Sea is the Greeks sea and totally disregarded Turkeys rights and interests
as one of the coastal states. The Greek territorial sea comprises approximately
43.5% of the Aegean Sea and Turkey has 7.5%. The remaining 49 percent is high
seas. Currently, the Sea is still being disputed. Turkey owns two of the islands and
Greece owns the rest. Not exactly the equality that is supposed to be. I think in the
future this will still be disputed until it is settled. It is very tough to recognize waters
and air space and place ownership on it. This is just one of many disputes over
borders and things like that.
