PLANNING Time, WORK Time, RECALL Time

This three-part sequence is unique to the HighScope Curriculum.
Occurring daily, it includes a 10- to 15-minute period during which
children plan what they want to do during work time (the area to visit,
materials to use, and friends to play with); a -minute work time for
children to carry out their plans (or shift to new activities that interest
them); and another 10- to 15-minute period for reviewing and
recalling with an adult and other children what they've done and
learned.
1.

Bellas Birthday Bubbles:

Bella brought in bubbles to celebrate her birthday! In honor of

Bella, we headed outside and read Bubble Trouble by Joy
Hulme and then we blew bubbles!

2.

Garden Journals:

After planting seeds yesterday, we created garden journals to

document our garden happenings and progress over the next few
weeks. Children are given their journals and materials to decorate
their journals. Children decorate the front cover of their journals.
Children then open to the first page and draw and write the things
that they did on the first day of their gardening endeavor.
Day 7: What I see Happening- Our seeds have started to sprout!
Children were given their plants and they recorded what they saw.
3.

Flower Counting Game-

Children took turns rolling two dice. They counted the dots on both
dice and added them together. Afterwards, they counted out that
many small flowers and placed them on the corresponding garden
pad. (Ex. Children counted 9 on their dice, counted out 9 flowers and
placed them on the garden that had the number 9 on it). After all the
ponds were full, we rolled the dice and subtracted that many flowers
from the gardens until they were all empty.

Taking Care of Our Earth: Playground Pick Up!-

After our Earth Day study last week, children have been noticing
garbage and litter around our playground while we are outside. We
decided to help take care of our playground and planet by cleaning up
our space. Children were given plastic bags and asked to help clean up
the trash that they saw on our playground. We walked around the
entire school and even the big field behind the school and picked up
all the trash we could find!
