Artifact 5 Rationale

Individualized Education Program Case Study

1. The Individualized Education Program (IEP) Case Study artifact required

me to understand the IEP process of a student. I participated in the initial IEP

process of a student who potential needed additional services. I collaborated
and planned with families, professional colleagues, and personnel from other
agencies as appropriate, in order to develop an IEP document. The IEP Case
study connects to CEC Standard 1 (learner development), CEC standard 3
(learning environment), CEC standard 6 (Professional Learning and Ethical
Practice), and CEC standard 7 (Collaboration).
2. This artifact, IEP Case Study, required me to understand how learners grow
and develop, along with the patterns of learning and development. I was able
to take a deeper look at two students who needed Speech and Language
services (CEC standard 1). It was necessary for me to create an effective
learning environment in which supports individual and collaborative
learning. (CEC standard 3) My knowledge and skills in professional learning
and ethical practices (CEC standard 6) were developed while completing the
IEP process. The IEP chair ensured to follow the IEP guidelines. During this
entire assignment, I participated in collaboration with the IEP Chair, Parents,
General Educator/ Special Educator, Speech Pathologist, Behavior
Therapist, and the School Psychologist. This artifact provided me with the
knowledge and skills of the IEP process.
3. The students that were assessed were positively affected by my mastery of
the standards. By participating in this artifact, I was able to gain a better
understanding of the initial IEP process. This process helped the student
receive the additional services needed ultimately, helping the student.
Students in the future will positively be affected in a similar way. This
artifact provided me with the confidence and skills needed for future IEP
processes.
