Artifact 3 Rationale

Positive Behavior Support Plan

1. The Positive Behavior Support Plan artifact required me to assess a students

behavior and determine its impact on success in the classroom. I designed,
implemented, and evaluated supports that positively affect student behavior.
Specifically, this activity is designed to assess mastery of the following CEC
standard 1 (Learner Development and Individual Learning Differences),
standard 2 (Learning Environments), and standard 7 (Collaboration).
2. This artifact provided me with the skills and expertise in the areas of learner
development and individual learning differences (CEC standard 1), learning
environments (CEC standard 2), and collaboration (CEC standard 7).
I learned and gained the most knowledge when I was recording the students
problem behavior and implementing the positive behavior support plan.
When I was observing and recording the problem behavior I learned the
most about the development and learning difference of the student.
Additionally, I was required to analyze the students assessment results to
determine appropriate needs for the student. (CEC standard 1) This entire
assignment was performed in the students natural learning environment to
ensure the plan would be valid and reliable. (CEC standard 2) Professional
collaboration between the classroom teacher, para educator, school
psychologist, and me was present throughout this entire assignment. (CEC
standard 7) CEC standards 1, 2, and 7 were integrated into this artifact,
Positive Behavior Support Plan.
3. The class as a whole was positively affected by my mastery of the standards.
The students behavior decrease and become less distractive to other
students in the class. The student was positive affected by my mastery of the
standards by receiving positive attention and a decrease the problem
behaviors. This artifact helped me understand how to design and implement
a positive behavior support plan for a student who displays problem
behaviors.
