Recycle Cell Phones?

The Iphone 6 is coming out and causing many people to want to
buy it. While many people are asking questions about the new iphone we
want to ask you some questions about your old phone. What will you do
with that old phone? The smart thing to do would be to recycle that phone.
Heres just some of the reasons why you should recycle it.
In the Congo there are minerals called Coltan. The Congo has a
mining business that gets these minerals and sale it to different companies
to make money. The gorillas that live in these forest where the mining
businesses are lose their homes because of this. By recycling cell phones
you can save their homes. If your home was being destroyed because of
this wouldnt you want someone to help you save your home? This is why
you should help save the gorillas by recycling your cell phones.
Also citizens mine these landfills and armed groups take it from
them and sell it for weapons. The citizens never see the money for their
hard-work. By recycling your cell phones you can help stop these armed
groups from making money off of other peoples hard work. Even children
are forced to mine by these rebel groups. By simply recycling your cell
phone you can help these kids so they are not forced to mine. Kids could
hurt themselves or get trapped under lots of rocks and they do this so you
can have cell phones that you're going to throw away in two years. Why
should they have to do this continually when you could just recycle the
phones.
How does the process work? First the phones broken down. Old parts
are also sold to make new phones like metals, accessories, and batteries.
Nickel can be extracted from the old battery to make new batteries and
that can happen with a few other elements in the phone. Circuit boards
contain metals like gold, silver, and lead. They can be recycled for not only
phoens but other things. If youd like more information to find a way to
help recycle cell phones or just help the congo in general visit:

Mining Process in the Congo

Think of the Gold Rush or mining gold in the 1980s in California.
Well, a similar process is used when mining for gold and other useful
resources to make cell phone in the Congo. Dozens of men and even
women work the field digging in large tunnels to create craters and
washing away dirt from the metals that can be found. The financial stage of
these metals are not much for the average American lives. Most would not
be able to live off of their Congolese workers. While other countries have
decided to get involved in the work of the Congo to only destroy the
mining process and the country, smugglers from Uganda, Rwanda,
Burundi, and other neighboring countries use the resources to make a
higher revenue giving them an advantage. A raging war for these resources
have been going on for years. There is more money for the Rwandan army
than in the Congo itself.
Many of Congo has turned from a beautiful country of natural parks,
lush forest areas and millions of animals. Now because of the war and the
mining issues between the countries who smuggle many of the resources,
the country has lost its culture and is essence of beauty from lakes, forests,
and national parks. The elephant population has been cut short in recent
years due to the war and hunting of several animals. Legal benefits come
into play when tracing and getting the metals to the countries they need to
go to in order to make money for the Congo. Many of the suppliers in the
Congo have been rejected for their resources in order to go to bigger
countries like Australia. All in all, many of the countries resources have
been stolen and they cant make any money from their profits to other
countries.
The Congo is going under from where it is now and in a few years will
ultimately collapse is nothing is done to help the country. All of the metals
used in the Congo to make them money will be gone.

The Cost
There are many negative impacts from mining and producing these
metals on the people. The negative impact on the people of the Congo
include a large cycle of abuse especially on women and children. The
women are usually raped for held captive for their labor. The typical
tough laboring and harsh conditions and child are hard work and most
of the people of the Congo lack the abilities to do or even learn about
mining. Most of the people from the Congo are uninformed about the
mishaps and what is being done in the Congo to the others. The
government feel as though there is no true way to fix the problem of
the abuse, rape, child and young adult molestation, immediate
smuggling, lost trading routes and kidnapping so instead they continue
to let it happen and the death rate of infants, children, and many other
people increase. As of 2011, the death rate, per 1,000 people, 10.99
people. The graphs below, from indexmundi.com, shows the increase
of the death rate for the past 51 years.
