#9 Gregor johann mendel is known mainly as the father of modern genetics, but many don't
know beyond that, like how he used plants to study heredity.

Gregor mendel was born on july 22 1922 in Heinzendorf, Austria, where he went to
primary school. he moved to troppau where he finished his schooling. he spent two years at
University of Olmtz, where he graduated 1843 that same year he started training to become a
monk.He joined the Augustinian order at the St. Thomas Monastery in Brno, where he was given
the name gregor.the monastery was a cultural center at the time and he was immediately drawn
to the research and teaching of its members.

in 1851 he was sent to the university of vienna where he studied under

Christian Doppler. after he left his most known research began. some scientists were
already testing theories but most of their experiments were over a short period of time,
while mandels was over an astounding 8 years with over thousands of plants. many also
thought that hybrids could not create new forms. mandell used mainly plants that grew
quickly like peas.many people dismissed his work as something commonly known at the
time even gregor mendel himself, but his work laid the foundation for genetics.
gregor was elected abbot of the school he had been teaching at for 14
years. His eyesight soon began to fade and he could no longer continue his research.
gregor mandel died on january 6 1984 at the age of 62. he was buried in a plot at the
monistary, his funeral had many people although is work was still mainly unknown.
I think that his work was import to the field of genetics, because he helped explain
heredity and understand the complex combinations of traits. although people and even
him misunderstood the product of his reach he set the foundations of the mansion that is
now our knowledge of genetics.
