INTRODUCTION

(Prior to lesson T asks Ss to bring in photos of farms to


discuss with other Ss)
T displays Ss and T pictures of farms and environments on
board in front of Ss.
Discuss T and Ss pictures with class, having Ss talk about
their experiences on farms and what they know or want to
know about farms.

T uses http://www.wordle.net to create a word bank on the


smartboard using words spoken by children about farms.
This can be printed and referred to during the unit when
needed.

Use terms related to the natural and built


features of farms

T divides Ss into small groups to create a concept map of their


own. T discusses with Ss first what a concept map is. T hands
out an A3 piece of paper and textas to each group to write on.
T directs Ss to decide on a writer for this activity. T explains to
Ss they are to create a concept map on the topic Farms. The
Ss are to come up with a definition of the term farm as a
group.

T tells Ss that we are coming together as a group to share our


definitions. A student is the asked to grab a dictionary and look
up the definition and tell the rest of the class. T using the
dictionary meaning and the ideas of each group will then

create a class definition using http://www.bubbl.us to make a


concept map on the smartboard. T sets bubble.us up and puts
the dictionary meaning in the middle then asks Ss to come up
one at a time to type one definition discussed within their
group and prints it off for the class display.

T instructs Ss to grab a partner and using their photos that was


brought in from home, discuss with that person 2 things they
knew about farms and 2 things they did not know and have
learnt today, for example, location, types of farms, crops,
machinery and who works on farms.

T signals for Ss to come back to their seats and then asks Sts
to put up their hand to tell T one thing they have learnt today
and one thing they would like to learn.
T thanks Ss for their contribution to todays lesson.
