Lesson Focus: Basketballs defensive movements

# of students: 20 students

Equipment and Facilities:


For this lesson the teacher will need 3 basketball
hoops, 3 balls, 20 colored jerseys, 12 poly spots and
20 cones.

Safety Considerations: Students will be advised to


keep their heads up and be aware of their surroundings
when in limited space. Students will be told to not
throw the equipment in an inappropriate manner or
shoot the ball out of turn. The teacher will make sure
that there is adequate personal space for each student
during the activities.

Lesson Specifics
Behavioral Contingencies: Students will be expected
Previously Learned Skills: Students have already a
to actively participate during the lesson. If students

in groups at their own choosing. The teacher will be
the demonstrator then students will be pinpointed
during the lesson

Academic Language: The primary academic language


being addressed will be the cues of the skill. The cues
for defense will be: head up, sit down, arms up

Objectives:

Psychomotor (P): Students will be able to move in a defensive stance using the correct cues
100 percent of the time
Cognitive (C): Students will be able to say the cues of the skill with 100 percent accuracy
Affective (A): Students will be able to support each other during group activities with
celebrations and high fives.
H-R Fitness (H): Students will be engaged in moderate to vigorous physical activity for 50
percent of the time.

Describe the pre-class arrangement Students will come to the blacktop and put their backpacks by the fence
near the basketball courts and will sit down at home-base, which will be designated as the basketball court line
Teacher: The teacher will stand on the court facing the students
Students: the students will put their backpacks against the fence and take a seat at homebase on the line
Equipment: the poly spots and jerseys will be pre placed on the court.

Activity

Instant Activity:
The Lesson will begin with a game of
Simon says. Teacher will incorporate
Locomotor movements and defensive type
movements (side steps, back peddle,
jumping, squatting etc)

Set Induction:
Today we will be practicing defense and
being able to move in a defensive stance.
Can someone tell me something about
defense? When in the defensive stance you
want to be low, ready to move and light on
your feet. You want to spread your arms
so you can steal the ball from your
opponent.
Purpose:
Being good at defense can help you win a
game due to the fact that you will not need
to score as many points.
Transition: Students will move from home
base to one of three lanes. They will go to
the lanes marked by the cones and put on

Lesson Core - Task 1:


In a relay style manner, Students will be
performing various defensive movements
to get from the starting point to the end of
the line. They will then run around the
outside of the cones to the end of their
line. Movements being practiced:
Running, Back Peddling, Side shuffling,
Side shuffling diagonally

Lesson Core - Task 2:
Students will be participating in 2 vs 1
style game. There will be poly spots
marking where students start. The students
will dribble the ball to the basket and can
pass it to their teammate or shoot. The
goal of the game is for the offense to
score, and the defense wants to stop them.
