Kindergarten:
1. Review- Sing The Cuckoo and play game
a. Have Bass xylo out infront
b. Remember to tell students to catch a bubble in needed
c. Start the song and gesture to the students to join in on Cuckoo
d. S stand up and T move students to even out rows
e. Rows two and four become trees and everyone else becomes cuckoos
f. Review meaning of scatter
g. Scatter trees (help if need be)
h. Tell S who are birds to move when the sound starts and be at a tree when it
stops.
i. Sing song with Cuckoos peering around trees
j. Repeat
k. Quietly tiptoe to instrument sound while going back to spot.
2. Listening- Cuckoo in the depths of the woods
a. Play to the first sol mi
b. Ask S what sound they heard
c. Demonstrate: Ask students to tiptoe in place when they hear the piano and
freeze with hand to ear when they hear the cuckoo
d. T leads class at first
e. Identify the cuckoo sound as the clarinet
3. Woodwind Family Instruments
a. Present Clarinet to class and talk about how it is a wood wind instrument
because it uses a wooden reed (present reed)
b. Use DSO website to play clips and use descriptions
