"Alternatives: Testing Without Torture." PETA. PETA, n.d. Web. 14 Apr. 2015.
http://www.peta.org/issues/animals-used-for-food/eating-health/alternatives-testingwithout-torture/
This is an online article that exclaimed that besides the fact that it is inhumane, animal
testing is actually a drawback in the field of research as it produces results that are
inapplicable to humans besides being costly and time consuming. The author provides
advanced and more efficient alternatives that that innovative scientists have come up
with. It is supposed to produce more accurate results, costs only a fraction compared to
using animal specimens, it is faster, and it does not involve harming any animals. The
author uses results from studies conducted to support their points rather than simply
relying on pathos.I chose this article because it paints a very positive and constructive
opinion to encourage people to opt for more effective and cruelty-free alternatives. In
addition, they provide information and resources for you to do your part. This is a reliable
source as PETA is a well-known organization that has advocated for the welfare of
animals for many years. From this I have learned that animals do not need to be subjected
to this cruelty unnecessarily when there are better, obtainable methods that are available.
"Ensuring the Humane Treatment of Animals in Research." Ensuring the Humane Treatment of
Animals in Research. Texas Biomedical Research Institute, n.d. Web. 14 Apr. 2015.

The author of this article preaches the fact that animal research is essential for obtaining
the results needed for conducting studies and experiments. It is responsible for the
success and advancement in modern medicine and ensures the quality of products. Aside
from humans, animals also benefit from the findings. Moreover, the author reassures us
that only the best care is given to the lab animals, they hire a legion of qualified and
dedicated staffs to make sure they have their needs taken care of. Although the author
remains unidentified, this is a trusted source the as the Texas Biomedical Research
Institute belongs to a recognized university. Also, they establish their reputation and
legitimacy by claiming that they are registered by the USDA,adhere to Federal Policies,
are accredited by Association for the Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal
Care International, adhere to National Academy of Science guidelines, and is part of the
Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee, as well as the Chimpanzee Advisory
Committee. Through these institutions, they are made sure to follow strict protocols and
are inspected periodically. I chose this article because it provides the opinion of someone
who is for animal testing. Maybe, as long as it is regulated and done in the most humane
and least painful way possible, animal testing may be important and beneficial to us after
all?
"Harm and Suffering; Animal Use in Research." Neaves. New England Anti-Vivisection Society,
n.d. Web. 15 Apr. 2015. http://www.neavs.org/research/harm-suffering
I chose this article because represents a point of view that is against animal testing, as it
describes the unimaginable pain and suffering animal test subjects are subjected to. The

author tells us how the animals are subjected to spend their whole life in cages, only to be
taken out when they are to be tampered with by the research scientists. They are
purposely deprived oftheir basic needs, isolated, tortured, and endure painful and cruel
lab procedures over an extended period of time until they eventually succumb to the
lifetime of suffering. Although the author remains anonymous, the NEAVES - New
England Anti-Vivisection Society, is a credible source as they have their own science
team that fights for humane treatment of animals in science. Furthermore, they appeal to
logos by displaying actual facts by citing the USDA, The Animal Welfare Act, and
illustrating studies and statistics. From this article, I became aware of the atrocities of
animal research that goes on behind closed doors.
"Should Animals Be Used for Scientific or Commercial Testing?" ProConorg Headlines.
ProCon, n.d. Web. 14 Apr. 2015. http://animal-testing.procon.org/#background
This is an online article where the author is not identified. I chose this article because it
provides a for and against perspective when it comes to the dilemma surrounding the
subject of testing on animals. They list down a wide array of benefits and drawbacks as
well as provide plenty of resources like facts, pictures, videos,as well as historical facts
and statements from expertsto allow me to discover where I stand on this topic. This is a
valuable source as it cites from a diverse range of respectable sources like The Humane
Society of United States, and the National Research Council of the National Academy of
Sciences.I chose this article as it provides the pros and cons of animal testing, providing a
neutral and holistic view on thiscontroversial issue. It draws me to come to this
compelling conclusion, "Is sacrificing a few lives worth it for the greater good of
humanity?"
