Describe how you would Online Project/Collaboration Site/Publishing Opportunity
in your classroom: I would use this site to show the students videos and give
them and online experience of the moon. Then I could have them use the moon
tracking sheet to make observations of the moon each night, where they see it
and what it looks like. We will discuss more why the moon isnt always in the
same place and why it doesnt always look the same.
What technologies would be required to implement this proposed learning activity
in a classroom? The internet, a computer or iPad
Describe how the following features are addressed in this learning experience
(note: all of them may not be addressed in the project, but most should be if you
are reaching a high LoTi Level.):
a. Collaboration with peers, near-peers, mentors outside their classroom
and often beyond their school: Students will collaborate with other
students on their findings and the data they collected while tracking
the moon. Students will compare observations.
b. Student-centered learning and knowledge creation (collecting original
data and or producing original products as a result of engaging in the
project): Students will have the opportunity to collect original data
from tracking the moon and post their data to share with other
students.
c. Higher-order thinking: Students must think about why the moon
doesnt always look the same every day at the same time.
d. Students publishing their original work to others who will use/care
about their product: Students will post their findings and students will
compare. This will give them a chance to work together and discover
how the moon moves, and why it doesnt always look the same.
