LS Daily Plan

DATE: spring 2015

GRADE: 4th and 5th

Game: Handball/Speedball
Instant Activity: 2 laps, open gym, bombardment, or prison dodgeball. We rotate
through these games.

TEAM HANDBALL
We will spend the first few minutes of class reviewing overhand
throwing and catching.
The focus of this class is PASSING! How can I make a good pass to
a teammate? What is considered a good pass?
The class will be divided into two teams and the rules of play will
be discussed.
GAME PLAY:
1. Players are allowed to run 3 steps with the ball.
2. Players may hold the ball for 3 seconds before passing or advancing it in
some method.
3. Players may dribble the ball but are not allowed to "double dribble" (similar
to basketball).
4. A player may take 3 steps, dribble, and take 3 more steps before passing or
shooting.
5. A Player may not pass the ball to his/her self by throwing it into the air (air
dribble is illegal).
6. Players are not allowed to dive for a ball that is on the ground.

7. Goalies may leave the goal area to play the ball but must then abide by all
the court rules.

DEFENDING OPPONENTS:
1. Players are allowed to use their body to block an opponent's movement &
shots (modified in phy-ed classes)
2. Defensive players may not push, hold, trip, or hit an opponent.
3. Defensive players may not knock the ball away from an opponent's grasp.
4. Offensive players may not charge into defensive players.

SCORING:

Balls must completely pass the goal line inside the goal to count as a score

Goals may be scored from all formal throws (throw-ins, throw-offs, free
throws, and goal throws by the goalie)

All goals counts 1 point

GOAL AREA:
Players must shoot outside the three point line, or if the
players are having trouble shooting, you may use the
basketball key.
The winner is the team that scores the most goals!

SPEEDBALL
We will spend the first few minutes of class reviewing overhand
throwing and catching.
The class will be divided into two teams and the rules of play will
be discussed.
The focus of this class is shooting. We are shooting in three
different ways during this class. What are the different ways?

What is considered a good shot? Where should I aim? How can I


make the goalie move and create space for my shot?
Basic Rules
1. The game begins with a faceoff
2. When the ball is on the ground the game is played just like soccer
3. When the ball is in the air the ball is played like basketball
4. A team must convert the ball into an aerial ball to play it in the air
5. Aerial balls may be passed by players are not allowed to run with the
ball/or you may allow two to three steps. You may also allow three
basketball dribbles. This is your discretion.
6. All players are allowed to use their hands to play an aerial ball
7. Teams may score by throwing for a touchdown like in football, kicking a
field goal like in soccer, or shooting a basket in basketball
Scoring
1. Field Goal= 1 points (when a kicked ball goes between the goal cones
and across the goal line)
2. Touchdown= 6 points (when the ball is thrown in the air to a teammate
anywhere across the goalline like football)
3. Basket= 2 points for a basket just like basketball
Goalie Rules
1. Goalies may use any part of body to stop the ball. Hands may be used
only inside the goal box
2. Once a goalie has possession, the opponents must back off and allow
the goalie to put the ball in play
3. Goalies should put the ball in play within 3 seconds
4. Goalies are allowed only 3 steps with the ball before putting it into play
The winner is the team that earns the most points!
