Course:
Type of Experience: This course is different from previous courses in that it is more
clinical preceptorship focused, and promotes attainment of the role of the family nurse
practitioner, encourages reflection on independent and collaborative practice to promote
expertise in assessment, diagnosis (nursing and selected common medical), management,
and evaluation of primary health care of clients across the life span.
This course helped me to get more understanding of taking a leadership role as a nurse
Practitioner, delegation of tasks to assistive personnel staff, and prioritizing, based on
patients needs. Furthermore, I experienced various roles of the nurse practitioner such
as responsibilities in practice, advocacy, legal and ethical issues affecting patients,
collaborations with other colleagues and staff regarding patient care, utilization of
evidenced based research and literature to enhance safe and effective care.
This course also gave me an understanding of current issues affecting the nurse
practitioner, liability issues, issues related to the components such as written protocols,
reimbursement, collaborative agreements etc.
