Experience gained from this course was built upon the previous assessment course. Understanding why somethings happens to a particular client at a particular time gave me a perspective. Addressing sensitive issues including alcohol, domestic violence, spirituality, and sexuality were also important components.

Clinical Hours required: 120 hours Clinical Hours completed: 120 hours Type of Experience: Experience gained from this course was built upon the previous assessment course which emphasized building a therapeutic relationship with the clients/patients. In Nursing 660, I continued to learn skills to build an effective relationship to structure interviews or history taking, especially as I learned to establish different approaches to distinguish between chief complaints (CC), history of present illness (HPI), and past medical history (PMH). Understanding the present illness or problem requires a step-by-step evaluation of the circumstances which surrounds the primary reason for the patients visit. Understanding why a particular issue is happening to a particular client at a particular time, in other words learning to explore personal, social, and economic experiences, religious, cultural, family history, and genetic history etc. gave me a perspective of why somethings happens to a particular clients and not the other. This course also emphasized approaches to effectively diagnose a client by establishing differential diagnosis, addressing sensitive issues including alcohol, domestic violence, spirituality, and sexuality were also important components during this clinical experience.
