Stakeholder and Genre Analysis
STAKEHOLDERS
Who Are They?
There are a number of stakeholders who can be described as an ideal audience for my
presentation on the benefits of sorority life and learning about Delta Zeta, more specifically. One
possible stakeholder for the presentation would be college students in general learning more
about Greek life and the values they hold on campus. College administration is another audience
as they could acquire knowledge on what fraternities and sororities do for the campus and
community. This would help rid them of any negative stereotypes. Individuals thinking about
creating a sorority chapter themselves on a college campus can learn about the processes that go
along with establishing a Greek organization. Because my presentation goes into further detail
about the specific sorority of Delta Zeta, these individuals can grasp more knowledge on both
topics.

They typically have pre-conceived notions about what goes on in fraternity and sorority
life, whether it be positive or negative. Specifically the incoming freshmen and media often have
lack of knowledge on the subject and that can turn negative. If the word is spread on all of the
good things that fraternity and sorority life does, then more people could join for the right
reasons. Because the presentation would detail the benefits, values, processes, and characteristics
of sororities, individuals starting in college may decide to get involved in Greek life. This could
also sway the media to spin a more positive attitude towards Greek life through different
mediums of communication.

College students and incoming freshmen can change the face of Greek life if they are
joining for the right reasons and can continue to make a positive impact on the community
through their values and service. If college administration is persuaded of the goodness of Greek
life, they can help promote it on their campus as well. The media can spread the word of the
positive aspects of fraternities and sororities through news, journal articles, movies, and
television shows in order to create a more positive image for the public eye. College students and
sponsors thinking about creating a sorority chapter on a college campus can see what they need
to promote for their chapter and can even learn about a specific sorority. This can maybe even
further Delta Zetas numbers if they are persuaded by its actions.
GENRE
What Texts Do These People Read and Write on a Regular Basis?
Incoming freshmen typically read any source that would be related to campus news, ways
to get involved, and things to do on campus. Individuals thinking about starting a sorority
chapter would probably read similar texts, but in addition to that, they would have more of a
focus on Greek life. These individuals would also be reading about each sorority in the National
Panhellenic Councils news (i.e. their websites) and even individual chapters news/websites to
get an idea of what sorority they would want to start. Media personnel normally read texts
related to reports, interviews, and even posts on social media. From this, they gather their
information in order to spread news to the public.

College websites, The National Panhellenic Council, individual chapter national
councils, Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life, and stories from sisters and brothers of different
organizations all help to keep information circulating to college students and often media,
whether it be media on campus or local.

The genre that I am using for the presentation would be a PowerPoint. This PowerPoint
can be shown at orientation for freshman women before the fall semester. This way, if they are
swayed by the proposal in the slide show, they have time to ask questions and decide if they want
to be involved in fall recruitment. The slide show can be organized into a combination of
pictures, videos, words, and websites to keep each student enticed for the duration of the
presentation. The presentation will start with a broad perspective on Greek life at UCF using the
Become video provided by sisters and brothers. I will then narrow down my focus in the
PowerPoint to only sororities and explain the different chapters and values/benefits of sorority
life in general.
Once I cover sorority life, I will go into further detail on the Delta Zeta chapter at UCF. I
can show their unique qualities, philanthropies, and values to give an example to the women
about how dedicated the sisters are. I will explain how this is the newest sorority on UCFs
campus and demonstrate how welcoming other chapters were during the process. This
welcoming aspect can be transferred to show how welcomed individuals will be during
recruitment. Showing all the hard work that Delta Zeta had to put forth during the beginning of
their time at UCF will convey the devotion that sorority women possess. Throughout the
presentation, the articles and interviews I have found will be incorporated.
The sources in the presentation will be cited in the PowerPoint and even passed out to the
women so that they can further their research on the topic and get specific information that they
want on any chapter on campus. The National Panhellenic Council as well as the Office of
Fraternity and Sorority Life will also be cited so that the women have all the information they
need and have a better chance of joining a Greek organization. I am eager to add more sources to
my presentation including interviews with Delta Zetas president and a higher-up in the Office of

Fraternity and Sorority Life so that the audience may be further captivated and gain insight
from authority in the situation. These contacts will be provided in both the presentation and
handout as well.
