Center 1: Elkonin Boxes segment

then focus on identifying
individual syllables instead of
individual sounds coupled with
blending and segmenting with
some fluency.

Center 2: Syllable Split split syllables.


compound, two-, or three-syllable words
into individual syllables. Reform words
out of split words.

Group 3: Begin with shared


reading of the decodable book
then focus on identifying
individual syllables instead of
individual sounds coupled with
blending and segmenting with
some fluency.

Center 3: Deleting Syllables delete


one syllable from compound, two-, or
three-syllable words and then say the
new word.

Group 4: Begin with shared


reading of the decodable book
minimal focus on blending and
segmenting with more attention
on fluency and comprehension.

Center 4: Jumping Syllables identify


individual syllables in two- or threesyllable words, manipulate the, and then
say the new pseudo-word.

Group 1 receives very explicit instruction along with a smaller group size to meet their intensive
intervention needs on a daily basis.
