Harrisonburg, VA 22801 I am applying for a teaching position at the elementary level where I am qualified to teach PK-6. As a 2015 graduate of Bridgewater College, I will be licensed to teach any grade level in elementary school and also will have an ELL endorsement. My ability to provide an interactive classroom, build relationships with my students and peers, integrate technology and a variety of instructional strategies to enhance student learning can benefit your school system. I assure you that I am capable of being an asset in your school building. During my student teaching experience in fourth grade at Fulks Run Elementary School, I created and taught a science unit on electricity. I made certain that all SOLs were covered in this unit by using interactive note taking, building circuits, and using differentiated instructional strategies to meet the needs of all my students. Classroom management was a major strength for me as I instituted time limits for lesson completion, allowed organized movement around the classroom, and set up stations allowing group work and collaboration. I realized during this placement that my career choice was well founded as I truly loved my students and built positive relationships with them and encouraged active participation in all of my lessons. During my ELL student teaching placement in seventh grade at Wilbur Pence Middle School, I created and taught a reading unit on The Hunger Games and a unit on persuasive advertising. The Hunger Games unit allowed students to create their own pretend character Facebook page, which enabled them to understand the underlying theme of the story but to enhance their learning with technology. They also participated in dramatic acting and interpretation of the story themes. In the persuasive advertising unit, students got to make their own advertisement for a product they designed. The assignment required students to use persuasive techniques, logos, slogans, and a detailed description of their product. The students then presented their ad to the class. I thoroughly enjoyed working with the ELL students as I endeavored to know them personally and supported them in all of their subject areas. My student teaching experiences have prepared me to take an active role in teaching my own class. I am excited to begin my journey and feel I can contribute in a positive manner to your school division. I hope you will consider my resume and teaching experiences as you choose your teaching staff for the upcoming year. I look forward to hearing from you. Sincerely, Jordan B Spitler
