Third, Fourth and Fifth Grade

Technology Curriculum
Fifth Grade:
If I had a million dollars Microsoft PowerPoint Presentations- Students
create a PowerPoint presentations based off of a series of questions as to the
different ways that they would spend a million dollars. Students will collect images
online as well as a song to accompany the presentation. Students must use
PowerPoint to create an interestingly formatted presentation. Teacher judges and
classmates critique students.
Digital Story books Word, Flip Cameras, iMovie.- Students are divided into
small groups and given a common story introduction, in which they must collaborate
to write a childrens story. Students will type their story and illustrate it before
recording themselves reading the story using a flip camera. Students will then learn
how to upload and edit their videos in iMovie.
Typing Instructor Program- A typing problem that trains students to have efficient
and proper key boarding skills. Program creates user profiles, which help pinpoint
trouble areas for students, and enriches skills with entertaining typing games.
Student paced, fun and engaging. Includes Monitoring and Assessment software for
administrators.
Adobe flash animations- Students will use Adobe flash to create digitally drawn
stop-frame animation between 45 second and one minute long. Subjects are open,
but require a subject completing a task from start to finish.
Google Master Scavenger Hunts- Technology pop quizzes
Illustrator Business Card Designs- Students will brainstorm sketch and finalize a
summer business, and create a graphic logo. Student will get a crash course in
simple illustrator tools. They will create their logo on illustrator.
Inventions that have changed the world- Students will pick at random an
invention such as; the wheel, plow, internet, computers, steam engines, internal
combustion engines, refrigeration, television, radio, photography, the light bulb, the
telephone, electricity etc. They will research their invention in order to answer
important questions and properly cite each source. They will type their research on
Word, collect pictures and then create an electronic visual.
Internet Safety Week- Students learn Digital Citizenship and safe & appropriate
use of e-mail via school accounts. Students watch videos from Discovery Streaming
and take electronic quizzes to prove their knowledge. Students are Certified in
Internet Safety once each year. A binder containing all certificates is keep for record.

Fourth Grade:
*Typing Instructor Program- a typing problem that trains Students to have
efficient and proper key boarding Skills. Program creates user profiles, which help
pinpoint trouble areas for Students, and enriches skills with entertaining typing
games.
*Inspire-tees- Word, Transfers- Students use online resources to collect at least
three inspiring quotes. One of which is typed into Word formatted and printed onto
transfer paper. Students then learn how to safety transfer imagery to fabric.
*Life in 2050 PowerPoint Presentations- Students create a PowerPoint
presentations based off of a series of questions prophet sizing what the world could
be like in 2050. Students will collect images online as well as a song to accompany
the presentation. Students must use PowerPoint to create a interestingly formatted
presentations. Teacher judges and classmates critique students.
*Garage band Day in the Life Soundtracks- Students will create a written
record of a day in their lives. They must use this list to generate a song that reflects
each section of their day, using Garage band.
*Flip Camera Jokes for kids video- iMovie

*Weather wizards
*Google Ninja Scavenger Hunts- Technology pop quizzes
*Computer Terminology quiz- Take apart laptop & analyze parts. Put back together
or make Robots with the parts.

Discovery Streaming and take electronic quizzes to prove their knowledge. Students

Third Grade:
*iPhoto Personal Calendars- Students will create a 12 month calendar using online
images that relate to personal events occurring in each month of importance. Then
they will export these photos into iPhoto, format and organize images, which are then
printed as personalized calendars. - Efficient Search/online skills, moving files into
different programs, Printer networks.
*Word Travel Brochures- Students will create a travel brochure using Microsoft
word and online research collected about a country or a state that they have interest
in visiting. Students answer a series of questions and learn to how to efficiently find
information online, gather images and then format them into a visual appealing
travel brochure.
*Word Storybook- Collaborative
*Neighborhood Maps- Google maps
*Word Biography Projects

* Inventor Projects- Students will be assigned an inventor at random. They will use
appropriate research skills to answer a series of questions. They will find a picture of
their inventor and 2 pictures of their invention in order to create an electronic visual.
* Internet Safety Week- Students learn Digital Citizenship and safe & appropriate
use of e-mail via school accounts. Students watch grade specific videos from
Discovery Streaming and take electronic quizzes to prove their knowledge. Students
are Certified in Internet Safety once each year. A binder containing all certificates is
keep for record.

Second Grade:
Basic program and web navigation, basic typing skills, and interdisciplinary learning
games including: basic strategy, puzzles, time management, literacy building and
science. Online videos about safety and technologies such as: space travel, robotics,
industrial technology (where do my things come from?), inventers such as: Alexander
Graham Bell, Henry Ford and Benjamin Franklin. Google Scavenger hunts to learn
efficient navigating and research collection skills.

Second Graders are also introduced to Microsoft word- We do a series


of short story prompts, they are taught to use the formatting palette as well
as how to save their work.
Body Letter Books- Each Student is assigned a letter. They must create a
sentence that uses at least five words that begin with that letter in Microsoft
Word. They then use a digital camera and direct 2-4 friends to create that
letter with their body.

*All classes are introduced or reminded of Technology Lab rules and
precautions at the beginning of the year and periodically throughout the
year. Classes emphasize the Proper Handling and Care of Equipment,
Internet Safety Rules, including Responsible Internet Use and the
restrictions and consequence of inappropriate Internet Use in the RLRS
Technology Lab.
