School.

Procedure:
Before the lesson: Check if the classroom has a
projector, and speakers that are working. Have
the video camera and tripod ready. Be sure that
the video camera is working because it will be
used to film the class. Have the booklets printed
out and ready.
I will walk into the classroom with drinks (soda) in my hand; I will
ask the question Who wants a drink?. If any of the students want
the drink, I will give it to them without telling them what it is. Some
of the students will question what the drink is, if it is poison, and
more. I will not answer any of these questions because this is the
icebreaker of this Guidance Lesson on Alcohol Consumption and
Drinking Responsibly. Then I will explain to them about Alcohol
Use and Drinking Responsibly and why I did that icebreaker. The
reason behind the icebreaker is that it is interesting to see who
asks questions, who just goes ahead and drinks it. I will explain
this to the students, so they have a better understanding. This
icebreaker will also get the students interested for the lesson,
thats why it is a good way to start the lesson.
In the start of the lesson I will introduce myself and I will tell a little
bit about myself. Then I will explain to them why I am there, I will
introduce what my personal project is about. I will explain the
different stages of Personal Project because they will also do it in
the next two years, when they become 10th grade.
I will give out the booklets to the students (one booklet per
student). I will tell them to write their name and the class on the
front cover. After I hand out the booklet to each student I will ask
him or her to look through the table of contents and the page about
personal project and topic.to get an idea of what the lesson is
going to be like. Then if there are any questions, I will answer.

The first activity is watching the documentary on The Truth About

Alcohol. It is a nine-minute video, and it is saved on my laptop. I
downloaded the video to my laptop because when I opened it from
the Internet, it kept on pausing and that would not be effective
because the students could get easily distracted. I will tell the
students to fill in the questions on the study guide as they watch
the documentary. I will ask them to concentrate at their best ability
and to fill out the study guide throughout the documentary.
The video: Real People- real stories

I will make sure that the speakers, and the connection between the
laptop and the projector work before the class started. This is a
good way to make sure that it will work in the lesson and to avoid
having any technical difficulties. This way I can make sure that the
class will be going in the right pace for the target audience, the
students. I will also make sure to pause the video after a few
minutes so that the students are paying attention and listening and
also filling in their study guides. If a student is not filling in their
study guides, I will nicely ask them to. This is a way to make sure
that I will meet my goal at the end of the lesson. After the nineminute video on Alcohol Consumption and Drinking Responsibly, I
will ask the students if they have any questions. If they have any
questions, I will try my best to answer the questions with the
knowledge I have after doing the research on the specific topics of
Alcohol Consumption and Drinking Responsibly.
After the nine-minute video it will be time for the independent
practice, the students will need to answer the questions under the
study guide on the video they have just watched. There is a True
and False Quiz and then an extended question. I will ask them to
answer the questions with detail. If the students are not
concentrating on their work, I will ask them to politely finish it.
After the independent practice, I will go over the answers for the
questions. I will open the study guide answers on the board and I
will explain and answer questions. I will have the PowerPoint on
the board, and I will show them before and after photos of drinking
alcohol. Then I will ask them the question What are some short-

term effects of drinking too much Alcohol?. The answers are

getting drunk, getting dizzy, headache, vomiting, and etc. I will
open the PowerPoint in the background.
There is a poem called I went to a party, Mom for the students to
read. I will ask if there is anyone who wants to volunteer to read
the poem out loud. If nobody volunteers, I will pick on someone to
read it, or I will divide the poem up for the class to read, or I will
read it. This will be chosen according to the different situations for
the different classes. Then after the poem is read out loud to the
class, I will ask the question What is the message conveyed by
the poem? The answer will be Not to Drink and Drive.
The next activity is to watch a Drinking and driving advertisement.
It is 1:30 minutes long. After the video is watched I will ask
someone to summarize what happened in the advertisement. If
nobody puts his or her hand up to answer, I will call on someone.
This is a technique I learned and keeps the class going.

After the video, I will ask the students to read Know you Nos and
Learning to Say No. It is after the poem in the booklet. After these
two pages are read, the next activity is the role-play. The students
will be divided into groups and given a slip of paper with a specific
way of saying no. They will have to think about a situation dealing
with alcohol. Then they will have a few minutes to practice and
then they will preform it to the class. The students should not tell
which type of saying no they will preform because the other
students will guess.
Then I will speak to the students about the consequences and
biological effects of Drinking Alcohol. I will do this by showing the
PowerPoint in the background.

The last activity is for the students to fill in the feedback sheet and
there is an optional pledge to sign.

Checking for understanding:

Questioning the students understanding on the information
provided on the guidance lesson on Alcohol Consumption and
Drinking Responsibly by asking questions (some examples listed
below):
Do you understand, should I repeat it?
Are there any questions?
After the poem: What is the message conveyed by the
poem?
After the Drinking and driving advertisement, ask someone to
summarize the events that happened in the video.

Independent Practice:
Questions under the study guide (the extended
question).

Closure: For the ending of the lesson the students will write
about what they thought about the guidance lesson I taught them
on Alcohol Consumption and Drinking Responsibly. The feedback
sheet is on the last page in the booklet. There is also an optional
pledge to sign. After, I will ask them for the last time if there are
any questions. If they do have any questions I will answer. The
students will have my email in their booklets if they want to contact
me about my Personal Project on Alcohol Consumption and
Drinking Responsibly. There will be no homework for this guidance
lesson.
