Conduct a PD about TECHNOLOGY.

You could present your technology unit,

your results, and implications
OR

a new and innovative technology strategy that enhances student

learning. This could be to any number of people. You could present at a staff meeting, department
meeting, or committee meeting where you can get your idea out.) Attach, insert, or link any
resources used for your PD. This can include handouts, PowerPoints, screencasts, Screenshots of
communication sent, or a live video of the PD. You can upload your files to your Google drive or your
IU Box account and hyperlink the file here. Be sure to attach this to your Weebly page also.

Professional Development Plan Overview:

Technology Topic Presented on
I will be presenting on multiple topics via an online format covering the following topics:
1. Creating a classroom website
2. Using PowerPoint effectively
3. Creating digital assessments
Audience
The Salem High School faculty (my co-workers) will be the audience for my professional development.
Method of Presentation (Staff meeting using powerpoint & handouts, website, committee meeting
doing a live demonstration, Department Meeting with live demo, Screencast demo sent through
E-mail, online presentation, etc.)
I am making available a series of instructional videos on how to utilize technology resources in the
classroom. For this particular professional development, I will be creating three videos on the topics
listed above. These are available on an online format through my classroom and professional
websites.
Adult Learning Theory. Explain how you taught and presented your PD while still following the
concepts of adult learning theory. You will need to research adult learning theory prior to conduct
this PD.

Additional Concepts that should be embedded in the PD

The importance of teaching social, ethical, and legal issues and responsible use of technology at the
school/classroom level. Explain how you did this.
(Example: I always remind my students to properly
shutdown the computers & I let them know that they should only use YouTube for educational
purposes while at school because it uses up the available bandwidth and slows down the connection
for others. )
As an educator, I am very resourceful when coming up with resources to use in my instruction. These
resources range from additional textbook resources, worksheets, notes documents, and pre-made
presentations. I utilize these shared resources on the web to my advantage as they help to make the
task of teaching easier. In this respect, the topic of copyrighted materials and education must be
discussed. Teachers do not always need to reinvent the wheel, but can rely on readily available
resources on the web. As an educator, I am protected by copyright laws in using these materials
because they are being used for instructive purposes and I am not claiming them to be my own,
unless of course I design them myself.
Another issue to be discussed is equitable access for all students. If teachers are to assign work that
involves computers or the internet, teachers need to ensure that students have adequate time during
the school day to utilize the schools resources. Teachers must understand that not every student
has access to computers and the internet at home. Therefore, keep and maintain a set expectation
or time table but also allow plenty of time for a task to be completed on the web.
Copyright & Digital Citizenship: Information about copyright laws related to use of images, music,
video, and other digital resources in varying formats. Explain how you informed or reminded your
staff of copyright laws or digital citizenship guidelines. You can simply provide them with resources or
tips to ensure that they understand the concepts.
Every teacher that does some form of instruction or assignment with their students with technology
needs to have some instruction regarding copyright law and digital citizenship. For instance, when I
have my students do projects, I have them site their resources on a works cited page using APA or
MLA formatting. Additionally, it is a requirement in my classroom discipline plan to show each other
the utmost respect. Thus, whenever presentations are given or whenever discussions take place via
the web, no student is to downgrade another and only positive comments and communications are
allowed between one another. Furthermore, students are told that they can share ideas and help
one another along the way, however this does not involve sharing completed work in which
plagiarism could occur. This is closely monitored whenever online or computer projects are being
completed in the classroom.

Evaluating your PD
After giving your PD, how did you gain feedback from your audience? What would you change to
improve your PD in the future? Did your staff have an interest in the topic you shared? What could
you have added or changed to make your presentation more relevant and practical for your staff?
I am a member of a technology committee tasked with looking into adopting a 1:1 initiative for the
school district. I am able to share ideas and technology resources with them. We met recently
during a Five Star Technology meeting and analysis of technology resources. My fellow teachers
thought a lot of the things I have been incorporating in my courses were new and creative. I was
surprised at how many tech resources my colleagues use on a daily basis in their classrooms given

that our school system has limited technology resources. I feel that if more teachers are known to
what we have available at our fingertips then more students would have more opportunity in
becoming more technologically literate. My colleagues are very agreeable to this. Some are a bit
apprehensive because of the time component and fear about students not doing what they are
told to do. My suggestion to them was to give it a try. Furthermore, think about how education
will look 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 years and on from now. How can education not be fused with technology
at this point? Decades from now, it would be almost unfathomable to see a classroom that does
not effectively use technology every day.

Professional Development (Beyond the School Level):

Include an artifact that demonstrates participation in education technology beyond the school level.
Examples: Post ideas on a technology website, Post ideas to a technology community such as Google
plus, Edmodo communities, a Facebook page you created, Twitter account, Bundles published in My
Big Campus, a Letter to a congressional representative, ideas shared in Skype for Educators, or ideas
shared in educator groups such as SimpleK12, etc. Explain how you shared a technology idea beyond
the school level. Provide proof by inserting a screenshot or linking proof.
I have joined a few Educational Technology groups on Google Plus. One is the Educational
Technology community. I have shared my website with them which contains YouTube videos I have
created on developing a teacher website, beefing up PowerPoint, and creating formative
assessments via google forms. I have also put in a suggestion form for future instructive videos.
Screenshots of my posts to these communities via Google Plus are located below.
