Lesson Plan: Earth and Space Lesson
Objective
o Students will be able to make scientific observations using visual aids and
properly document their findings.
Materials
Post-it notes
Chart paper
Science journal
Little water bottles
Sand
Water
Engage
o Students will learn about the oceans and their affects on the land.
o A video will play to start off the lesson. The students will write down on a post-it
note what they think the lesson will be about. All of the post-it note will then be
placed on the front board with their names on it.
Explore
o The students will make their own beach in a little bottle. The students will then
observe and document the effects of the wave on the beach.
Explain
o After the video, the students will share with the class what they wrote about on
their post-it note.
o On chart paper, the class will right down everything they know about the oceans
and their affects on the land. The students will document the information on the
chart in their science journal.
o Following this, students will answer questions relating to real life connections and
prior knowledge.
Elaborate
o Students will read more about oceans and their affects on land in their textbooks.
o Students will read outside resources such as articles, websites, online videos, trade
books, etc.
Evaluate

o Students will be required to complete a writing assignment which will allow the
teacher assess their knowledge. The journals will then be handed in to be looked
o Along side to this the students will compete an exit card.
