1. Talk about Gustav Klimt
-from Austria 1862,
-painted night and day
-most successful from Golden Phase
-influenced by mosaics and costumes
-used gold leaf and oil paint
The Kiss, Portrait of Adele ($135 million)
-Gustav had a cat that he really loved name Katze
-wanted people to look carefully at his paintings
2. Show example, talk about color, shapes, repetition, collage

3. Talk about working with glue, paint, scissors: respect tools

4. Demo first step: Drawing the cat
- draw on white side of paper
- fill most of page, start on bottom left, move up, make one ear, make a
line across page a few inches, draw second ear, continue back down.
This is a basic silhouette of a cat.
5. Demo 2nd step: Eyes and Rectangles
- with 2x4 paper, fold in half, use pencil to draw a leaf shape or a round
shape from one side to the other
- do not unfold, use scissors to cut this shape out
- once done, there should be two, symmetrical eyes
- use white oil pastels to outline edges of eyes and to draw a pupil in
center
- glue stick eyes to cats head
- FOR color RECTANGLES: use color strips to make small rectangles
enough to go around the border of black tagboard, use glue stick to
adherenot too much space, not too little DEMO
- FOR black/whiteRECTANGLES: using black and white strips, cut into
small 1 inch sections, make enough for about 6-8 rectangles. Glue stick
white rectangles onto black rectangles. Glue stick the combo onto
sections of the cat

7. Demo 3rd step: Painting DESIGNS and Nose/Mouth
- First paint nose: triangle pointing down, small line from point, mouth
extends outward, whiskers optional: USE BLACK PAINT ONLY FOR THIS
STEP
- WE ARE USING SMALL BRUSHES FOR DETAIL AND PRECISION. BE
CAREFUL NOT TO GET PAINT ON YOUR BLACK PAPER
- Ideas for designs: swirls, lines, empty squares, circles, flower buds,
vines , leaves, dots, dashes, etc. Use colors and white, no black DRAW
ON WHITE BOARD, IDEAS FROM KIDS
- Use at least 4 different kinds of patterns-WE ARE NOT FILLING IN SPACE
WITH SOLID PAINT, ONLY DESIGNS
- Use paper towels to clean brushes and change colors, no mixing colors
today
