The Unexplored

Technology
It is the year 2014, 20 years ago this year was seen as
an incredibly futuristic year with unimaginable
technology. While we may not yet have things such as
flying cars we do have incredible technology.
We have revolutionary technology such as tablets,
cellular phones that are just as good as computers,
glasses with the capability to answer questions and
record video with crystal clear quality.
Yet with all of these technological innovations, we have
areas of the globe that have yet to be electronically
mapped

Mapping
A Grim Reality

There are areas of the world where it is still a reality for

people to search for a specific and still get these types of
results.

Ebe, Enugu, Nigeria

Mapping
Outrageous

Why does this occur? Especially when we use the same

mapping application to get these results.

With SO MUCH technological INNOVATION across the globe

this is simply unacceptable

Richardson, Texas

How can we fix this?

This is where we come in as a company
We will scour the globe for these problem areas and
electronically map them as well as take pictures of each
street to provide a street view

If its a simple fix why hasnt it been

done?
Most of these roads that have yet to have been mapped
are in rural areas. These areas tend to require a bit
more effort as well as resources in order to get them
mapped.
This may be in terms of impassible road ways as well as
unmarked roads. This would require communication
with local community members in order to ascertain the
necessary information
While companies such as google and apple have
mapping applications all over the globe they have profit
margins in their respective companies as a whole. They
only dedicate a minute branch of their company with

Why choose The Unexplored

Application?
The difference between our company and larger
corporations is that we are wholly dedicated to
electronic mapping. We put our entire budget into
mapping as opposed to a miniscule amount.
We are willing to put in the necessary manpower and
resources necessary to get to these places and retrieve
the necessary information from local community
members to finish building the electronic maps.

Objectives
In our first year we would like to obtain grants for
research. Once we acquire the necessary funds we will be
able to begin the process of electronically mapping
Anambra State as well as taking pictures of roads to
generate a street view of sorts. Once we are done with
these physical aspects we will implement this into our
software for the creation of the application
Upon the release of the application in its first year we are
looking anywhere from 15% to 30% awareness. We will be
marketing our product to members of Generation Z.
People born between the years 1995 to 2012.

Why Generation Z?
We chose generation Z due to how knowledgeable they
are about mobile technology. In a field that had very few
competitors with a large portion of society using this
technology.
With mobile technology growing quickly across the
globe it was necessary to take advantage of the number
of people using it.

Market Research
How would we have any idea if the consumer is
interested in our mapping application without any form
of research
For our research we chose to implement both the survey
and focus group techniques to conduct our research

Focus Group Research

For this portion of our market research we chose to
have three people analyze our mapping application
We were there simply to usher the conversation in the
proper correction

Results of focus group

The results of this form of research resulted in many
interesting ideas that could possibly make our mapping
application superior to our competitors
The application should be trial tested for free as a
promotional method in order to convince people to buy
it
It would be kind of nice to have accurate real time
traffic information in the app
It would be cool if the app reported any accidents or
construction incidents

Survey Research
For this portion of our market research we chose to
interview ten random people. We asked them ten brief
questions.
We got very constructive feedback that could help make
our mapping application superior to those already on
the market.

Survey Results
1. In the last 1-5 years have you traveled overseas and
stayed in that region for an extensive period of time?

2. What was the name of the country

you visited?

Survey Results Continued

3. During your time there, did you stay or visit any areas
where street names or addresses weren't listed?

4. During your time there, were you often discouraged from

traveling long distances due to a lack of electronic mapping?

Survey Results Continued

5. Did you use any form of a mapping
application during your time there?

6. What was your favorite thing about

that particular mapping application?

7. On a scale of 1-10 what would you rate that

particular mappingapplication?

Survey Results Continued

8. Did your mapping application have an
adequate amount of points of Interest on it?

9. What did you dislike about that

particular mapping application?

10. Would you be interested in paying for a more

intuitive mappingapplication that was more detailed
for the particular area you visited?

Market Research Outtakes

I wish there was an app that
recorded my actions and gave
me suggestions based on
those actions.
Most of the mapping
applications that I have used
have only given me reliable
directions in well established
areas.
I didnt really travel to areas
that were to far, because I
didnt know where to go.

I wish there was an option for the fastest route as well as

multiple routes going to a particular location.

It would be nice to have an app that gave real time traffic

updates

While I was there, I relied on a driver that knew the area,

but I could see myself having some more freedom with an
app like that

Pricing Strategy
We are choosing to implement a freemium pricing
strategy. This strategy will contain aspects of price
penetration in order to generate revenue. The basic
mapping aspects will be available in the free
application.
However, access to popular features will be charged
within the application
A full-scale mobile app with integration to business
processes will take anything from 3-6 months and may
cost over $150,000 to develop on multiple platforms.

Labor
How do we get the
manpower?

A few important
qualifications

In order to accomplish the arduous task of mapping Anambra

State we will enlist the help of local community members
We will personally hold a screening process to ensure that
these local community members are qualified to accomplish
the job at hand

Ability to operate a motorized vehicle

Knowledgeable on latest camera technology

IT or Computer Science degree

Experience using advanced camera technology

Break Even Point

Our break even point would consist of our Total Cost
($294,744) divided by our minimum unit price ($2.00).
This would give us the number of purchases for our
minimum features which is 147372.
Due to the nature of our product we would be unable to
have a Unit Variable cost. This can be attributed to
numerous reasons the most important being that our
product is intangible. Being that our product is a
software product as opposed to a hardware product
there is an infinite number of variables that could affect
this price.

How do we incur revenue?

We make revenue through the use of advertisements
through our application.
We will also make revenue from selling our electronic
mapping to electronic mapping companies. These
companies would be similar to Tom Tom or Garmin.
Another way we would incur revenue would be through
in app purchases

Product Design

Product Design
Our mapping application is going to be shot with the
use of a DIY street view kit from google. This kit will
consist of the street view camera as well as a rack to
support the camera.
At the end of the day we want our mapping of these
uncharted areas to resemble that of a detailed location.
Our mapping of these areas is meant to inspire
community welfare as well as economic prosperity.

Distribution
Our distribution of the application would be through the
google play store as well as the apple app store, we
might also consider launching it in the blackberry app
world.
Another form of distribution would be through the
internet, this would be to allow more people to have
access to this application.
Some logistics problems that we may encounter would
be incompatibility of an app on a particular phone.
However, we would work through that by constantly
updating and formatting our applications to be capable
with as many mobile devices as possible

Promotion Strategy
Our primary method of promotion for this mapping application
would be a free trial on all Operating System platforms
We would implement the use of multiple forms of social media to
inform our target market of the product as well as the free trial
