Abstract

The purpose of this guide was to prepare students for teaching and living in Japan. There
are several items that would help students considering teaching English in Japan. Obtaining the
necessary teaching skills and intercultural skills would help prepare their checklist before
traveling to Japan. This would also assist them in making a smooth transition into becoming a
part of Japanese society and help make their stay in Japan all the more enjoyable and rewarding.
Furthermore, these skills would then help candidates to decide whether completing and obtaining
a TEFL certificate would be the right move for them before leaving for Japan. It would also help
them obtain the teaching strategies necessary for making sure their Japanese students learn
properly. All this would affirm their decision to be in Japan while teaching and living there.
