English I 4th Quarter The

Odyssey and Research


Welcome to the Fourth quarter! This quarter is jam-packed with action,
adventure, and chances to excel. This quarter, we will study Homers The
Odyssey, an epic poem composed some 3500 years ago. In addition, you will
complete a group project presentation and will compose a 3-5 page research
paper. Sounds like fun, right? Now, dont let the idea of a research paper or
epic poem scare you well help you along the way!
Supplies Needed (for research paper by May 1st):

Red pen
3x5 notecards (one pack)
1 folder with brads and pockets

Attached, you will find a copy of the 4th quarter calendar. This will also be
posted to Edmodo, along with all assignments and handouts.
A few expectations and changes for this quarter
1. It is YOUR responsibility to keep up with your work, whether you are here
or absent. All assignments will be posted on Edmodo. Please check Edmodo
BEFORE you ask your teacher for work.
2. Please ensure you have access to Skyward. YOUR grade is YOUR
responsibility. Grades will be updated weekly, so be sure to check once a
week. If your grade is below passing, it is YOUR responsibility to get your
work in, attend tutorials, and speak with your teacher prior to progress
reports and final grades. See your teacher with any questions.
3. The calendar is subject to change due to testing, school activities,
classroom needs, etc. The teacher will update the calendar as needed, and
students will be given plenty of notice. Make sure the calendar you have is
the most recent.
4. Late work (daily grades only) may be accepted up to three (3) school days
past the original due date with a 10 point penalty per day. After three school
days, it is at the teachers discretion whether to accept the assignment. It is
YOUR responsibility to keep up with due dates & deadlines. Assignments
may be submitted early without penalty so long as they meet all the
requirements and are complete.

5. IF you need a ONE-TIME EXTENSION on an assignment (major


assignments only), it is YOUR responsibility to speak with your teacher
PRIOR to the due date. No extensions will be given after 2:45 on the day the
major assignment is due.
