oon © (My Mapple By Matt Groening BE IR nnn ce ony yoo ci on feo NUNCA When growing up my favorite television show was re ‘Simpsons: Even though I didn't understand most of the jokes they made, I still enjoyed watching it, The Simpsons was created on December 17, 1989, it's almost over 26 years old. The show is set in the fictional town of Springfield and parodies American culture, society, television, and many aspects of the human condition, Since its first show, it’s broadcasted over 563 episodes. The Simpsons is most popular for their parodies. The Simpsons made an episode called’My Mapple“My Mappl¢'was a very popular skit because it was doing a parody on a popular brand name called Apple, which sells electronics such as iPods,1Phones, laptops, and more. In the skit, the My Maple brand sells Mypods and Myphones, sound similar? In this skit I found sarcasm, exaggeration, and parody. These three devices Tused best describe how Ws te CUS MAING M2 HINNGARG? oc is UT Morng 3 similar the two brands are. yy Me anorRAy VeOION ~ WE suLlety Conseil Sp sy , seca wg One device I used for the My Mapple skit by Matt Groening was sarc3imt. The skit has eed examples of sarcasm for example, there is a clown in ‘The Simpsohs named Krusty The Clown, and he happens to be in the Mapple store with The Simpson's family. He stops in the middle of the store and yells “Come on! Is anybody going to get me started" (Matt Groening) Before yelling this quote, he tii states that his Mypod music is not to his preferences, and instead of leaving the store, he wants ses COS 5 Eee someone to argue with him about the music on the Mypod. Another example of sarcasm was when Lisa ——eoeooeer —— (the daughter of the Simpsons family), gets excited when Krusty The Clown hands her his Mypod, especially when she really wanted one but couldn't afford it. When Lisa gets the Mypod she poses and says “I'm a Mapple person’ ¢MattGroening)* with an excited tone. At the time Lisa said that, a salesperson walks over to her and tells her “Were all Mapple people (Mat-Grocning)”. These quotes are implying that so many people have these electronics, that when she got one that she’s just like everyone else who gets these Mapple products, Apple products are so popular that fifty percent of all households in the United States are home to at least one apple product. This part of the skit is showing and telling you that so many people have Apple products that when you get one you blend in like PAL HerHZ - Ur eepraimad Mo quecs at on ‘everyone else with Apple devices, eter * C » Exaggeration was another big part of the skit My Mapple by Matt Groening. When the Simpson's family arrived at the Mapple store, Homer (the father of the Simpsons family) was interested in the Mycube. When talking to the salesperson, he gets down on one knee and says “What can I do for you? Please I'm begging you Matt Groening)”: This is showing how some people go to the extreme with obsessing over these products, and even worship them. Now a day's people are so particular about how products and devices are made, that they have to be perfect. The brand Apple has so much. “ reputation for having the best phone ever invented, and how people can’t live without Apple. I found another example of exaggeration when Lisa went up to the cashier and asked if she could buy some fake white headphones so she could look like she has the real ones. ‘The cashier hands her the fake ones e and said the} forty dollars, Ifthe fake headphones are that expensive, that only means the real ones are y twice as much, No store sells fake headphones, and some brands sell headphone at a fairly cheap price. ~ The whole episode was a parody, and how it mocked certain things about Apple. The Mapple devices used in this skit's names are Mypod, and Myphones, and Mycube. Apple devices names are4Phone, and od. The Mypod and the [Pod both store musi on it and they both look the similar to the way they showed the shape in the episode, The Maple store has a Braniac Bar which customers can ask questions or if they need help with their device, and the Apple store has a Genius bar, which does the S Me same thing. The Mapple store is located in the mall and so is the Apple store. ee Rg wi ae hg I picked exaggeration, sarcasum, and parody because they best represent this episode the | ¢” most. Mapple and Apple are very similar in their own way, though there can be some over looks in the brands. In the Mapple store Homer sees the Mycube glowing and thinks that it’s on when really it’s off. This just shows how poor malfunctioning can be in any brand. Apple products are typically more expensive than any other brands like Metro PCS which is another brand that sells phones, but at a cheaper price. Apple brand tends to get more recognized and mentioned about. Except for the brands high pricing, the poor quality has something to do with the skit being made. People are sometimes so involved in the brand name, that they also over look that the devices can have a simple glitch or malfunction. For example, dphones have a glass screen, if dropped it can easily be broken and cracked, My Mapple was a great satire to write about because it shows how popular trends can be, but it can also be a risk for joining the trend. .
